p.1 #1 · MBP M5 Max heavily discounted at Micro Center

I just bought MBP M5 Max, spec is 16in/2tb/64gb/18 Core-49GPU/standard retina for $3800 vs Apple at $5400 before tax.

Incase anyone is local to Micro Center.

That's a great deal - get a TB5 dock and that should last you a long while.

Micro Center used to be good for in-house only deals years ago, though still a long Saturday or Sunday drive. You could buy everything you needed there and have a whole computer built and set up by the evening. I miss those days!

That's intriguing ... same spec as my MBP M2 Max ... wrt selling my MBP M2 Max (valuation / market).

I was oriingally planning on staying on my M2 for 5-8 years, but ... maybe I make the M5 my "5-8 yr rig".

I haven't spec'd the diff's in terms of performance / features M2 vs. M5 ... anybody got some "top of head" or real-world input to the diff's?

Update:
BTW, looks like the $3800 versions are for 48GB RAM, while the 64GB models are $1,000 more. Also, they are for the Liquid Retina XDR display (not OLEDXDR). So, for $4800, I'll likely stick on my M2 for now ....

We’re dating ourselves here, but I recall the old version of the store, too, with shelves of just about any kind of digital gear you might imagine.

Of course, I also remember specialized stores that sprang up shortly after the Mac was originally introduced. And Fry’s. ;-)

Ah, Fry's. Very weird store (at least the one near me) that had all kinds of kitch when you first entered, but was the go to place for any kind of electronic part or gizmo.

They actually sort of toned it down later on, but the original store — which I definitely went to, being a Silicon Valley resident — was pretty crazy. Fry’s was originally a grocery store chain in California, but somehow someone in the family decided to try selling techie stuff. In the original store you’d find racks of sodas and snack food and similar, but if you kept going you’d get to computers, modems, etc.

I’d never seen anything like it before or since.

The retail stores are all gone now, likely being driven out by online sales.
