You can now compare the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 to Tamron 16-50 f/2.8 on the-digital-picture using Sony A1 camera.

It appears the Tamron loses out to Sigma optically at the long end.

Compact, lightweight, and that extra width on the wide-end - nice to have options!

I'm not sure I could get used to zooming in the wrong direction.

It really irks me when companies are this lazy. If you're going to make a lens for a mount, it needs to match zoom throw, manual focus, and aperture ring directions.

Somewhat interesting lens, yes. But Canon, finally make the RF-S 15-85! Or why not RF 15-85 L as RF line of lenses is supposed to be so superior. I would get one right there. Cost? Who cares. An RF 15-85 L would be The Lens!

Canon doesn't seem interested in doing any good lenses for APS-C RF mount to make it attractive, because they want everyone to skip to FF (= spend $$$) as soon as possible, or at least to use FF lenses in lieu of (nonexistent) good APS-C options. Hence the RF-S versions of 22/2 and 32/1.4 being a no-show (even though the EF-M 18-150 was ported with minimal changes, and in rather reasonable timeframe, which means it's pretty easy to do if there's a decision).

So I think if we do see any exciting options for RF APS-C, it will be from Sigma and Tamron, possibly (LK) Samyang as well. At least Canon has lifted the gate open for this kind of lenses - it could be way worse.
