Hard to compare because I didn't shoot the subject with and without the TC but if there is a difference it would be difficult to see based on what I'm seeing. I'm pretty happy with the sharpness with the bare lens and as well with the 1.4TC. Honestly I'm more concerned with the AF when using the TCs, in the process of testing that out with some raptors..

Just took out the 600 for first time. This is with 1.4TC, 50MP image cropped to the 18MP. I took similar images with and without TC, and there was clearly more detail with the TC for this fairly distant subject, at low ISO’s anyway. Separately, the 600+1.4 was notably sharper than my 400-800 at 800mm in an indoor test compared at base ISO. This is all pixel peeping of course, and the differences seem to fade away at higher ISO’s as the fine detail is lost anyway. I’m very happy with my 600, though.
