p.1 #1Montréal World Championship cycling road races - a baker's dozen
Thanks everyone for your thoughts on lens choices for the race: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1956713/?b=2

I ended shooting with the A1ii and A9iii with the 24GM and 70-200GMii

During the women's race, I shot near the summit of Côte Camillien-Houde at the Mont Royal park.

For the men's race, I took photos at various spots on Avenue Pagnuelo.

For each race, I've included 6 photos that narrate the evolution of the race from my perspective as a photographer and (US-biased) cycling fan.

Albums on flickr:

complete men's (129 photos): https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjD6cHa

Women's Race
Marte Berg Edseth and Natalie Quinn in the early break by Albert Lew, on Flickr
Still over 100km to go! Edseth seems to be checking stats on her head unit...

Kate Courtney after the crash by Albert Lew, on Flickr
I couldn't confirm this, but at some point she made up 2 minutes on the peloton - her gap went from 3'59" to sub two minutes - **after** her crash. Unfortunately, after remounting several minutes behind the field, the US lost its best chance for a medal in the race.

Vollering away solo by Albert Lew, on Flickr
Demi Vollering put 30 seconds into the field before they managed to close the gap

Next to Juliette Berthet, with Elisa Longo Borghini tucked in behind Juliette, Puck Pieterse sitting in, and Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney simply checking out whether the group is committed to chase (as well as noting her teammate and Borghini's teammate are done for)

at the top of the Voie Camillien-Houde while Demi Vollering and Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney are forced to respond

Vollering on her way to the win by Albert Lew, on Flickr
With under 8km to go, it is just her and Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney at the front for the rest of the race. Tech note - there was terrible banding shooting the big screen at the summit with the A1ii, but since I was carrying the A9iii, I used it to take some crowd shots with the screen and voila! Global shutter party trick unlocked 😀

Men's Race
Quinn Simmons gets in the early break with MVDP by Albert Lew, on Flickr
With 80km to go, Mathieu Van der Poel attacked and both Oscar Onley and Quinn Simmons joined him

Christian Scaroni leads the pack by Albert Lew, on Flickr
Winner Brandon McNulty and silver medalist Matt Matthews were in this group while bronze medalist MVDP and McNulty's teammate Quinn Simmons were up the road.
Also in this larger group were late race animators Ben Healey, Remco Evenepoel, Issac Del Toro and Giullio Ciconne

McNulty breaks free by Albert Lew, on Flickr
Shortly after McNulty broke free of the peloton, he had to tackle Avenue Pagnuelo for the first of three solo ascents. The crowd wasn't sure if they were watching the winner, as he still had almost 30km of solo riding before the finish

We believe! by Albert Lew, on Flickr
With 50 seconds on hand on the penultimate climb up Avenue Pagnuelo, kids and parents alike were excited for Brandon McNulty's chances

Ciccone leads the rest while Jorgensen defends by Albert Lew, on Flickr
Giullio Ciccone leads the rest of the group, all of whom placed in the top 10 (with the exception of Paul Seixas), while Matteo Jorgensen keeps a watchful eye on the proceedings in defense of McNulty's lead

about to take the rainbows by Albert Lew, on Flickr
Brandon McNulty is deep in the pain cave on his final ascent up Avenue Pagnuelo, but the crowd now knows they are watching the 2026 World Champion ride up to hill on his way to victory

Nice pics Albert!

While I don’t follow cycling too closely. I do watch the grand tours. And some of the classics every year

Some of the images aren’t showing up though #6,11, and 12

Edit: The images show up on my phone. Just not my iPad though. Not sure why

Thanks!

Sorry the images aren’t showing up. Seems to be working on my iPad with Safari.

Probably due to Flickr hosting - see this thread:
