Although I understand why it is implemented, but the new Cloudflare is simply annoying to a point that it takes the fun out of browsing FM.

I kid you not. My state DMV website has this Captcha test on every second page refresh. I was trying to pick a custom plate and it took joy out of the whole process.

Pretty sure it's the Cloudflare implementation that is breaking Flickr embeds too, which has severely degraded the experience of sharing and viewing work here.

I renewed my registration online with CA DMV by paying them using their electronic funds transfer system (ACH debit). And my bank declined the payment! Luckily, since I did quite early, I could receive a letter they sent by snail mail telling that. So, we could still go to a local DMV office and paid there avoiding the late fee but they only accept credit card, charging a 3% fee. They don't want to deal with "rubber" checks and understandably so, and EFT maybe also denied by the bank again. What a life we live in now!

Almost as bad as my DMV refusing to accept my REAL ID driver's license as identification when renewing my license because it's not an "approved" form of ID. Instead, they wanted a 40+ year old paper birth certificate and a social security card signed by 7 year old Scott.

All to hand me a new REAL ID which I can't do hardly anything in Texas without.

I started a related thread about security issues in the Forum & Miscellaneous forum earlier this week. Might be appropriate to add some of this there.

I stopped riding around the Covid period and sold all my motorcycles, but eventually I ended up buying almost all my favorite bikes again, including the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE, the Ducati Scrambler 800 Classic and the Honda Monkey. I have not ridden anything since I bought the Monkey. It is such a fun little bike to cruise around town and it always puts a smile on my face.

Honestly very grateful and pretty excited to have my bike collection back.

Thanks for posting this, Joshua. It’s been pretty terrible here lately having to wait almost every time I change pages. I hope Fred does something about it.

I used to hear that Captcha was intrusive, and who knows? The victim would be the last to hear. AI offers this:

Modern CAPTCHAs (like Google's reCAPTCHA or Cloudflare's Turnstile) use advanced risk-analysis engines to separate humans from bots. Instead of scanning your PC, they analyze your interactions:

How your mouse moves across the screen as you approach the checkbox (bots move in perfect straight lines; humans have micro-shakes).

Browser environment: Your browser history canvas, screen resolution, and language settings.Network data: Your IP address and general location to see if the request is coming from a known malicious network.

Cookies: Active cookies from the CAPTCHA provider (like Google) to see if you have a track record of normal browsing behavior.

While some privacy advocates criticize modern CAPTCHAs for tracking user behavior across the web to build ad profiles, this tracking is strictly limited to your online browsing habits, not your local computer files.

Note the weasel word 'modern'. So no straight lines - do some screen burnouts maybe, have a 'normal' browsing history - who decides?, and whatever else that is left unsaid.

As (inventor of email) Dr Shiva Ayyadurai says: 'the future is offline.'

I'm assuming an ad blocker would fix this, based on the fact that I've never encountered it. When I look at FM in private mode, it's a hot mess.

The problem is that they assume you are up to no good if you have no cookies or history, use a VPN, block trackers, use a privacy-focused browser, don't use mainstream OS, etc.

Eric, I was just voicing my frustration. It started about the same time Apple came out with a brand new iOS late last week. I figured, it had to do with their new security measures, not realizing that it was Fred that implemented the new Cloudflare system.

It has reduced traffic on FM. From time to time I check the most active subforum on FM and that's the B&S. Before the implementation of the new Cloudflare, the "oldest" thread on the first page was less than 24 hours. Now, it is about 2 days! Let me add/edit this to clarify; this applies when "Sony" filter is used, BTW.

Fred is facing a dilemma now, you are damned if you do and you are damned if you don't...

Me neither. I just have one check when I first click go to the home page. I run an ad blocker and I’m often on a VPN.

Of all possible technical improvements that could improve this site's user experience, I'm surprised to see this much attention on Cloudflare.

It is ridiculous what Texas makes a person do at my age. I gave them my birth certificate in 1969 to take driver's ed and get my learner's permit. One branch hasn't a clue what another is doing, even when they have access to the database. I had to pay $30 for a copy of my birth certificate last December to have a restriction removed from my DL.

State park system uses Captcha and it is a nightmare sometime.

Thanks, Scott. I’m actually using an ad blocker so maybe yours is better than mine? Once again, I hope Fred fixes whatever he did. It’s painful.

Try Brave Search engine. I will not do any of these websites or You tube without going through their site.

I use Chrome + Adblock Plus and uBlack Origin Lite on my computers. Purify on mobile. Neither allows any ads or captcha of any type on FM.
