I renewed my registration online with CA DMV by paying them using their electronic funds transfer system (ACH debit). And my bank declined the payment! Luckily, since I did quite early, I could receive a letter they sent by snail mail telling that. So, we could still go to a local DMV office and paid there avoiding the late fee but they only accept credit card, charging a 3% fee. They don't want to deal with "rubber" checks and understandably so, and EFT maybe also denied by the bank again. What a life we live in now! Almost as bad as my DMV refusing to accept my REAL ID driver's license as identification when renewing my license because it's not an "approved" form of ID. Instead, they wanted a 40+ year old paper birth certificate and a social security card signed by 7 year old Scott.
All to hand me a new REAL ID which I can't do hardly anything in Texas without.
I was looking into getting a fast-track or Pre-Check ID to get through airports faster, but they make it very difficult for some people. You cannot do it via internet and I would need to drive at least six hours to the closest location if I wanted to get the process started before actually traveling. The second issue is that they require a birth certificate with the parents' signatures, which mine does not have. And, for the year that I was born, the state (Florida) does not re-issue birth certificates with parents' signatures - they probably did not require them at that time. I have no idea if there a way to still get the ID in this situation or not.
This whole thing is really getting absurd.
