I'm currently on the fence about upgrading my A7C to the Mark II. But I'm hesitant about whether it's worth waiting for the third generation. The current model came out in late 2023. When do you think we might see the next model?
I would like to know but right now I’m more interested in learning what features it will have. Of course the most important one is the partially stacked sensor but also really want an improved EVF and the 4 way flip screen with higher resolution. I have the A7C II and A7V now so unless it really offers the features of the A7V I’m not interested in an upgrade.
How much are you expecting to pay for it? My guess is Sony can’t deliver newer, higher end features and keep the entry level price, especially with an upgraded sensor 🤷🏼

Jack,
I agree that with the kind of upgrades I was asking for it would increase the price substantially or just make it an A7V list price.
Then it will be a body to own instead of the A7V but might still consider it if they can get everything in at the reduced size of the A7CII. Maybe leave of the 4-way flippy screen but improve its resolution.
I'd love to see Sony lean more into compactness with a full e-shutter A7C. But it seems likely they'll continue the pattern and use the A7V sensor, in which case I think it still needs the EFCS. Panasonic and Sigma did it with their L-mount compacts, though they're just hand-waving away the rolling shutter issues.
I could see an improved A7Ciii, possibly even with the 50mp sensor, but that would be at a corresponding price point. If the A7iii gets “everything” and even just the 33mp sensor, my guess is it’s now pushing $2000 — and will folks buy it?
My wish list would be a stacked sensor, latest AF and flip screen. This would be perfect for my kids school activities, travel and family outings where I prefer a small. discrete and quiet camera.

the a7V is so good, just use it for everything. It's not that much bigger and offers much better useability. I ended up selling both of my A7CIIs, and I don't miss them.

Interests, I own both an A7CII and an A7V but never considered giving up my A7CII but did trade my A7CR for an A7RVI just recently. Why not build the A7CIII from the A7V as best they can. ( Would need to figure out how to add the joystick and higher quality EVF.

I also expect a significant EVF upgrade in the next A7C III. This is the thing I like least about my A7C Mark I.

Some of us have the hand size of a small child and prefer a smaller camera.

IMO, the A7c line is meant to serve two objectives in the mind of Sony: it is meant to be a compact version of the A7 line for those who prefer a smaller and lighter camera and at the same time, it is meant to offer a more affordable option to the A7 line for consumers with a more limited budget. So I highly doubt Sony with bring an unprecedented feature in the A7c line. They remain a cut off version of the A7 line. IMO, it is very possible that A7c iii would be introduced in 2027 but I won't raise my expectations regarding its features.
I actually prefer the compact light weight rangefinder form of A7c line over the A7 line. However, I don't want to compromise on the abilities and features of my camera so I have so far stayed with the A7 line. Ideally, I would like a A7cr that is as capable as A7r v but with a tilt-able viewfinder. If it carries all the features and abilities of A7r but in a lighter rangefinder form, I will certainly take it over A7r any day even if it is priced in the same range.
By the way, I have an average male hand size and I still prefer a smaller camera over a bigger one any day. I miss my A6000 and A7r / A7 ii / A7r ii, etc.. Unfortunately, Sony cameras have grown with each generation. I think only people with large hands may need a large camera with a fat hand grip. The rest of us can do just fine with an A7c. To me, it's really a psychological thing: it is a herd mentality.

I'd probably wait if you're not in a hurry. The A7C II came out in 2023, so I'd guess the A7C III could show up sometime in 2026–2027, with 2027 feeling more likely. If your current A7C is still doing what you need, I'd hold off and see what Sony announces

Unless they put a better EVF and a real mechanical shutter in it, I'm not interested. And add the 3 way flippy screen thingy.
If anything, I think Sony needs to do something about the pricing level. The a7CII is now $2,500 - if you look at Canon R8 II and Nikon Z5 II/C pricing...

In Japan A7CII is priced quite close to Z5II and R8 MK2 and there are a lot of lower price opportunities in smaller stores. Cheapest option I can find for new ones right now is 217K yen for body only (including tax). Regular price at Map Camera etc. is around 276K. It's been selling very well all the time since launch too (in Japan). I do agree that $2500 is high but it's more of a regional pricing issue. I think it must be priced much better than that across Asia where it's been really popular.
