p.3 #1Time to GIVE UP ON DxO PhotoLab
In any event one of my contacts in Europe has confirmed they are working on fixing it and officially they are supported formats - even if their official supported list says they are not.

Make of that what you will.

A7V has been out for a long time but perhaps the combined A7V and A7R6 user base is insufficient to take attention away from AI masking...

The issue with compressed RAW files is entirely Sony’s problem, because they want to cut corners on expensive hardware in order to achieve high frame rates.
It’s certainly no problem at all for DxO Labs to handle such pointless file formats.
Please look to Sony for the culprit, or simply don’t use such pointless file formats.
I don’t use this mess produced by Sony on my Sony A7RV at all, and I never will.

I would say that compressed Raw are customers problem not Sonys, but Sony causes it.

For faster sensor readoutspeed, smaller files (great when shooting 30fps) and doubling the AF calculations per second You want to use Compressed Raw.

Meantime I'm using Adobe DNG converter for converting compressed Raw to DNG and theywork in Dxo Pure Raw and Dxo PL

I've tried DNG conversion and the DXO NR results of DNGs from lossy compressed ARWs are terrible, like some old-fashioned NR that makes the image look like plastic with no details. With NR off you can judge the details but then you have all those colored speckles. ISO 3200 is not very high. I can get beautiful results from the 14-bit (MS) images with DXO.

FWIW, I used Adobe DNG converter 18.6 and DXO PL 10.0.1, both of which are current as of 21-SEP-2026.
I don't know how anyone is getting the 12-bit files (lossy compressed, continuous FPS) to process decently. (Those are the images that are green on black in DXO.) I downloaded some online ARW files from a review and am seeing the same thing, so it's not my camera.

I agree with you regarding converting with adobe DNG converter, and then DxO PL or Pure Raw does not give the desired results. But for now, you only have this option if you don't want to subscribe to adobe photoshop, which I will never do for reasons of principle.

Hopefully DXO will support this later on and then I can process my Raw's again.

p.3 #7Time to GIVE UP ON DxO PhotoLab
I wrote to DxO that the Sony A7R6 provides new possibilities for a high-resolution camera when using E-shutter and compressed Raw.
* Faster readout of sensor data.
* Smaller file size(which is a must with 30fps)
* An increase in AF calculates from 30 to 60 calculations per second.
So this is something that a lot of people will use. As far as I know, only Adobe has this compatibility, which could be a pretty good opportunity for DxO to get new customers or keep existing customers

If everyone that have an A7R6 and DXO software could file a request of 12 compressed Raw support it might help to speed up things or make it happened.

I've got their attention on why ppl want to use the 12-bit compressed Raw in my support ticket, but I think it's the amount of support tickets in this matters that makes a difference.

So everyone with a A7R6 and DXO software make this to be heard.

Adobe, Apple, even the open source LibRaw library now supports these formats - so the decoding algorithm is in the public domain. Not really much excuse - but the bottom line is people need to raise concerns with Sony for not making the new format specifications available to the software developers.

It makes no sense that they don't publish the file formats - its not like they have usable software for processing the RAW files.

What app in Apple Macbook do you open this in?
the one I can open this Raw is with XnViewMP on both mac and win.

I've complained to Sony before about some Sony stuff but they've never responded in a meaningful way those I g n o r a n t f u c k e r s

Didn't DxO start out the A7R6 compatibility timeline with an Autumn schedule....we have gotten some compatibility early but they aren't out of time yet.... 😉

"Hello,

On 25 June 2026, DxO Labs just released support of Canon EOS R6 V and Sony A7R VI in

PhotoLab 9.9.1

PR 6.3.1

FP 8.7.1

VP 5.14.1

Update of previous versions will be done mid-July. By this time you’ll also get support of Canon RF 20-50mm F4L IS USM PZ and Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS (and TCs)

RAW compression of Sony A7 V / A7R VI will be supported in autumn.

Ltgk20 wroteI'm not a DXO user; I use Capture One. However, I believe when Sony released their new processor with the A7v, they released new file formats. These formats only apply to the A7v and A7Rvi, though I suspect they'll apply to the A1iii and any other camera that gets the new processor (the RX10v, even though it was released after the A7v and A7Rvi does not have the new processor as far as I can tell). I believe it's these new formats that RAW processors are struggling with (all I know other than Adobe).
Incorrect - Dxo PL9.12 and pl10 do support all Compressed HQ files and Compressed RAW taken in Single Shot mode (14bit).

So I think it is just the 12bit files they are having difficulty with. What is puzzling is why they are struggling and Apple and Adobe apparently are not.

This whole 'not really raw' is a nonsense since if the files are converted to DNG by Adobe DNG converted PL can handle them just fine. I guess DNG Converted may be converting 'not really raw' to RAW somehow.

I think we have to differentiate between:
- „can process“ (a might work or might not work situation, all though more say it appears to work)
- „support“ - It is up to the manufacturer to say if he supports some file formats. DXO very clearly states that they do NOT support lossy compressed files like HQ (even if their processor might work)

Photos seems to open all formats and I have my own RAW app which uses the Apple CoreImage API's which includes their RAW decoder and that opens these new formats just fine.

There are also a few apps based on LibRaw which seem to work fine with the new formats.

Raw files from Sony A7RVI tested on DxO PL 10

1. Compressed HQ = Works as it should
2. Compressed RAW taken in Single Shot mode (14bit) = Works as it should They added this support recently
3. Compressed RAW taken in Cont. Shot mode (12bit) = Not supported but you can open the file but it is black and green (before they added support for the single shot version you couldn't open this kind of file)

Probably they didn't know that there was a 12 bit version of Compressed Raw

My only point was really only to clarify that DXO definitely supports regular Compressed RAWs from Sony cameras, except for A7RVI (which has some caveats).

Yes you're very much correct, it's compressed but there's no difference after decompression.

And yes regular compressed raws are supported, I just wanted to highlight the difference between the regular compressed file vs the new high efficiency file.

LibRaw does not support the A7M5 also not the A7RM6 till today. They both are not mentioned in the source code file cameralist.cpp

Apple RAW 9:
* supports 12-bit compressed Raw from Sony A7R6 without a problem.
* The denoise works really well.

Hopefully DxO will work this out soon.
