They are the second biggest photography brand by a large percentage. Who's ignoring the brand? I was on Sony forr 4 years. Came to the conclusion that it was dog poop for my work flow and stopped using it. The deal was basically sealed when I saw the 50 1.2S and the 50 1.2GM saw sample images from both and liked what I was seeing in the S vs the GM. Then you tack on their dog meat hotshoe and I was not vibing with their ARW files and I switched. Then the extra thing that got me to switch is that I did not want to be associated with Sony's uber annoying userbase so used all my E mount stuff as Z mount coupons and used what was left to reinvest into Fuji X mount. It's a brand, not a lifestyle. I bounced. Has not stopped me from pumping out image after image after image and doing my job. RustyRus wrote:

I Never said there was a problem. I said Sony’s lineup is becoming increasingly compelling. Its cinema, photography, and video portfolio is getting harder and harder to ignore.
I don’t care if you switch systems or stay with Nikon for the rest of your life. That’s completely beside the point.

Here's how i look at the two new lenses. The Nikon primes are probably better and i'll wait for someone like Steve Perry to do some comparisons. But thanks to the marketing power of Sony and the more attractive prices, someone new trying to get into wildlife photography will gravitate towards these lenses than Nikon.
Therein lies the biggest problem that Nikon faces. Less sales compared to Sony.
I hope Nikon comes out with a couple more bangers in the next few years.
That being said, I just picked up a 400 4.5 Z from the buy and sell section. The Sony releases finally pushed me over the edge to go towards a faster prime.

Yeah, I think the biggest impact will be newbies looking at the prices and going to Sony. People like me who have nearly $18,000 of Nikon gear are very unlikely to switch over.
Enjoy your Z 400mm f/4.5! I had that lens and enjoyed it while I waited for the 180-600mm to finally be released.
