p.1 #1 · Best settings for Canon Lide 400 for ScanGear?

I have a bunch of older B/W Photos and need to save them. What would you recommend for Scan Gear settings?
The images vary from 3x3 to 4x6 and are generally in good condition.Mostly family photos.
I am thinking 600 dpi. I tried B/W setting but the image scans look very bad, color seems to work better for some reason.
Not sure If to use unsharp setting to on or do it in Photoshop later.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used to scan prints in best native quality to TIFF and then bulk process in PS with actions to whatever is needed for output.

Supplied scanner software is often crude. I don't know that scanner, but Hamrick Viewscan will get the most out of any supported scanner (8000+). It has saved some older, really good scanners that are no longer supported by the current OS.

Yep doing them in Tiff, but boy I thought the scans would be better quality. I suppose I can't expect miracles.

Espon used to make the Perfecto line of scanners, though there were not cheap.
