p.1 #15 · Nikon's 35mm 1.4 is a non S? | |
I have started to wonder: How are the Fringer and/or other AF-communicating adapters? My Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II has been largely neglected, since I bought it about the time I shifted* to Nikon. Now that I have bought into the Z mount, I can use Canon EF on Z-cameras, with AF.
Back to Nikkor 35, I want to emphasize, again, how much I like using the F-mount AF-S 35mm f/1.4G, with an FTZ adapter, on a small Z camera body. The 35/1.4G has a “finger groove” in the barrel, plus, a bit of a “waist line,” that serve as a perfect “add-on accessory grip,” for my left hand. Perhaps it is because I am left handed, that I like to use my left hand to hold the camera/lens combo, and to “instinctively point” the weapon, er, I mean lens barrel, at things I want to photograph.
“Pancake and cupcake” lenses have their place, when I want the rig to be concealable or low-profile, but, otherwise, I’d rather that the lens have some heft to it. The 35 Z-mount lenses that seem to most have my attention, lately, are the f/1.2 S, and the Carl Zeiss Otus ML. I would prefer to handle each one, before deciding. There is no hurry.
*My wife, the more-senior photographer, between the two of us, by far, is a dedicated Nikon shooter. All of our pro zooms are Nikon, as are most of our telephoto lenses, for birds/wildlife. I built my first primary system, Canon EF, mostly around macro and close-range photography. After I retired, in early 2018, I was not performing the duty of evidentiary/forensic/crime scene photography, so, my Canon gear was largely unused for more than five years, while I used Nikon for nature photography, and then Leica M to s-l-o-w-l-y learn to want to photograph people, again.
