They are 100% completely different lenses-
I would pick the 35 1.4 all day long but if you are concerned with sharpness, the 1.8 is 100% the way you want to go.
The 35 1.4 is a the everyone hates "character rich" lens that has some optical imperfections that give a very nice look in the rendering.
