After using the X-E5 for quite a while now, it is the camera I use the most next to my Sony RX1RMkIII. It handles and feels well, and the image quality is of course very good. So is the built quality. The 40MP sensor is overkill, but it does allow for up to 2.5x cropping. The lack of an OVF is no problem for me. If I do feel like looking through a window into the world, I still have the X-Pro3 and the 27f2.8. Much larger and heavier, though - for no good reason. The X-E5 is a very worthy successor to the X-Pro line.
Perfect fit for the X-E5 are the Fujicrons, and the 23f2.8 which, though very sharp, slows the camera a bit. Over the summer holidays, I have been using the Viltrox 90f2.2 and returned it cause I felt I was missing focus too often. It was now on offer for a substantial discount - so I ordered it again and will give it another go. The Fuji 90f2 is just too big on the X-E. The Viltrox is perfect in term of size and weight with the X-E5, and it is has an aperture ring!
It will be a while before the next iteration of the E-line will emerge. But I would hope to see a better EVF (much like the EVF on the RX1 which allows me to see the whole image even with my glasses on) or the one on the X-T5 (for which there would room to be made). The darn sim dial should be turned into an ISO dial or removed all together. And focus magnification should revert back from magnification upon half press of the shutter button.
One of my concerns is pricing. Fuji just increased prices considerably in Germany, to a point where FF options are at same price level or even less. That doesn't bode well for the price of the X-E6.
The film sim dial is a blessing in disguise if you actually use the sims at all, because it decouples the sims themselves from the C# custom setting banks.

"If" one uses films sims :-) I Don't. But even a user of film sims certainly doesn't have the "urge" to change film sims on the fly. So the Quick Menu seems a good place from where to access.

I honestly got an X-Pro3 over an X-E5 for size reasons and the max shutter speed of 1/4000. I miss IBIS in the X-Pro3, but I do like the size of it and most of the ergos. I'm learning to live with the rear screen and I think I'd have to map iso to a Fn button on the X-E5, which is kind of a step backwards in my opinion. I'm fine with it on my X-H cameras and GFX cameras because there are either buttons dedicated to that or simple work arounds for it in the case of the GFX cameras.

While I like small cameras, I must admit that "the feeling" of the X-Pro3 is still satisfying. So I do use it, even though with only one lens (the 27f2.8) and the OVF.
ISO can be assigned to the front dial of the X-E5 - but there it can easily be changed accidentally.
The X-E5 also felt "too small" to me personally. The X-Pro3 with the hand grip feels perfect with the 1.4 primes for example. Nielk Mike wrote:

See, I don't think the X-Pro is meant to be used with the f1.4 lenses (with the exception of the 35, if any). They obscure the OVF, even more so with lens hood attached. If I want EVF and larger lenses, it is really the X-T line. The X-Pro and it is OVF is absolutely brilliant with a 23/27 lens.

Not sure about this - I certainly welcome the ability to change between image quality recipes depending on the subject without the need for menu diving - even Quick Menu diving.

Interesting. Isn't the OVF the MSP of the camera? I mean, I know from what I have read on the web that hardly anyone seems to use it. Same with the x100. But for me, it is the only reason to take the camera off the shelf.
Not using the OVF doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the camera. Does not help that the AF system via the OVF just seems "weird" to me comparing it to how it operates on my Nikon DSLR's so I just never used it with the OVF. Nielk Mike wrote:

I would rather say it is a worthy successor to the Xe4, although to those who don't want to use film sims it has a wasted dial. Unless you can reconfigure it to something else that might be useful.
Without an OVF it surely can't be a successor to any Xpro.
I like my Xpro2, the OVF is nice but then I have used Leica M cameras almost all my photographic life and can accept the AF limitations that come with the OVF.
Will there be a successor to the Xpro3? Possibly not, the number of enthusiasts for the OVF is likely shrinking as EVFs get better. In that respect I would coǹˆsider the Xt line the better choice, no bigger than an Xpro and a better EVF than the Xe cameras.
