I'm taking an unexpected trip across the country starting next week from Washington State to North Carolina, and on the way back, I'll be solo. My route will take me across the midwest up to South Dakota and Montana, and I'd love to take a side trip to the TA Moulton Barn, which I understand is best viewed in the early am light.
I'm not familiar with the area, but hotels in Jackson are pricy. Any places just outside Jackson worth looking at that might be more in the $250/night range? I don't mind getting up early if necessary, but no more than a couple of hours to get there would be nice.
You could check out Pinedale (1 1/2 hours away). Or dispersed camp on Shadow Mountain or the Gros Ventre road. Both of those you would have to be there mid-morning to find a spot.

I also recommend the cabins at Dornans. They are fantastic and close to the park. Even if you don't stay there I recommend stopping by the restaurant for pizza!
I've also stayed at the Elk Refuge Inn and it's great too.
