This is the Aldie Mill outside of Middleburg, Va. It was Fall a few years ago..in fact MANY years ago...It is a photographer's paradise in any photographic genre. We spent 5 days while only living 45 minutes away. I don't think there is NOT a "want" that cannot be filled in this area. I live in the Country and always have but this area is really wonderful!
But I believe there is a distinct "line" where progress and country is butting heads both in "the Country" and "the City"..

Nice shots Dan, looks like a fun place to wander around with a camera - especially in the fall I'm sure!
Thank you Scott!
IT is a beautiful area! It is the "hunt country" of Northern Virginia. Remnants of Civil War battlements, fieldstone "fences", rolling hills, quaint pre-Revoluntionary War towns.
A photographer's paradise for any and every genre of photography!
Thanks!

Lovely looking place, I can see why you can spend much time there, Dan'l! That is one interesting fence design, stone and split rail!?!

It IS a lovely place Douglas.
The fence "design" goes back 250+ years. Farmers cleared their fields of the flagstones and made "fences". The split rails came along more of a stabilization of the rock walls than a deterrent to wildlife.
White's Ferry connected Maryland to Virginia over the Potomac River and the "Jubal Early" rope ferry was used to ferry the armies/ cavalries of both the North and the South to and from engagements to Gettysburg or the Southern battlefields.
Foxes abound, turkeys, the animal variety , horse country.....Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Lee, Washington, Mary Lee Custis
all had properties in the area.
Thanks!

I have a wonderful image of a "4 legged" guide who directed me to the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers hidden in the woods....he would wait for me to take a photo then lead me to the next location to photograph. I nicknamed the pup "Mosby" after the famous Confederate General John Singleton Mosby … who was an American military officer and was a Confederate cavalry commander in the American Civil War...
The Aldie Mill is loaded with history.
Aldie is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located between Chantilly and Middleburg in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The historic village of Aldie is located on the John Mosby Highway (U.S. Route 50) in a gap between the Catoctin Mountains, where I live, and Bull Run Mountains, through which the Little River flows. Aldie traditionally serves as the gateway to the Loudoun Valley and beyond.
This was the main military route to the North and South.
