p.1 #1 · Any M246 whiz kids for help or comment? User profile Menu frustrations
Probably just the way it is but I have a new to me M246. Really like the output, better than I had hoped for. The user interface though - awful, especially in the user profile area.
What I thought should be simple - set a profile for Street, Landscape, Pano Landscape, and Portrait, and still have the wide-open default profile to run manual etc. in reality is almost impossible. Maybe I'm wrong to think things like Shutter delay, or even base ISO vs Auto, Focus peaking etc. should be really easy, like a canned profile, by going into set, highlight profile you want, and boom, now you're ready to shoot Pano with delay, exposure lock, what ever. Pull the camera off the tripod, reset to Portrait or Street and Boom, all your Portrait or Street preference are there.
This system is forcing me to choose - 100% manual (fine) or simply get a M10M with a 21st century menu system. (which Im fine with)
Comments or help appreciated.

I am also using the M246 - never have set up profiles in my camera, so I really can't help here unfortunately. I use it all fully manual. To this point I admit I wasn't even aware of any kind of profile settings - I suspect you can pre-select for specific profiles with over/underexposure? Not sure what they actually provide to make a distinguishable difference? It sounds like you intend to use the M246 like a mirrorless EVF-based camera when mentioning focus peaking? Are you always using it with the external VF-2?
The Leica M system is much more acting like a film-based camera than it can be compared with a mirrorless camera. In case you want the form size and using M lenses, the better option for you might be the EV-1 camera which is EVF based. But this one is not a monochrome camera.
I am using M 240 based cameras since 2019 and got used to the menus. Many options available in this series I choose to ignore like the profiles. Probably the weirdest is that some important menu options can only be found by pressing the SET or INFO buttons in addition to the MENU button. This can get confusing for new users I fully agree. Coming from Sony MLC which had the most inconvenient menus implemented judging all cameras I ever used, this Leica M 240 menu is relatively simple still.
The M10 has a more simplified menu I read, but I have never used this M series so far. One con for me is that the M10 and successors have no longer the video option in camera - another one is the more limited battery in the M10. I rarely use this video feature but consider it as good-to-have in my M 240 and M 246.
