This is one of the two adult Green Herons at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside, NY. There are also 3 juveniles in the preserve and they are probably the offspring of the adults. One of the adults is very tolerant of people and then there is this one that is rather shy. I was alone on the paths as most people in the park were looking for the Advoset that was getting a lot of attention as they are rare in the New York Metro Area. Without others disturbing the heron I was able to spend about 30 minutes with it as it flew between perches while looking for a place to fish. It even took a walk along one of the empty elevated walks.
