This flower, "Leonotis leonurus lion's ear, Common Lionspaw, Wild Dagga" , is starting its journey to one of the most spectacular "wedding cake" tiered flowers next month. Deep orange "globes" tiered to a pinnacle.
Love em!
Dan
Wasn't "Leonotis" the Spartan at the "Last 300"?...

What a fascinating flower, I don't think I've ever seen one. Is it common where you're at?
NO and Yes!
I first saw the flower 20 years ago at my local gardens...it was Fall and it was brilliant in color and stature!
I bought one the next year and planted it.
I requires some "baby-ing" if the Winter is too cold for it. But I don't mind...
But is has done extremely well in my garden!
Thanks!
Dan

Like this a lot, have not seen before, is this part of your garden, Dan'l? I think it was "Leonitus"

Yes you have him correct brother. It was a little "play on words" in my text...
Yes it is Douglas. It requires lots of space and no other "creeping" plants around it or its roots will get smothered. It tends to be a "pansy"(play on another flower) when it comes to care!
Thanks!

May be Leonidas? As I remember from my high school study of Greek literature. It means "Sun of a lion".
BTW beautiful flower, Dan. Well captured and presented with its bright colors.
