Yes, two questions about issues with my Epson printer today...
I was going to do a firmware update on my P9000 today, but it the application (on MacOS) that installs firmware updates asked me to enter an Administrator Password for the printer before proceeding. The last time I updated printer firmware — over a year ago — I do not recall getting that question.
I tried the usual Epson-recommended options: entering the printer serial number, admin, dpeson. 000, and so forth. Nothing works.
I do not recall ever actually adding an administrator password for this printer, but now I'm locked out of these low level controls such as firmware updating.
I get the impression that there is some work around to resolve this. One site suggested some steps on the printer's front panel interface, but that did not work. Others suggested looking for the password on a panel on the printer, but that does not seem to exist.
Ideas anyone? Before I try to contact Epson support? (Which I am learning is not exactly easy.)
Long shot: It may be a Mac thing -- did you try using your Mac PW?
That said, I had a similar issue with an older HP laser printer a few months back. Was a PITA. I eventually had to change the admin PW on the laser printer to get new software to install.

First, make sure the Apple AirPrint driver is not installed and rather the Epson Printer Driver
If you already done that, don't assume that all the media has been installed. For my P900, in the Applications Folder under Epson Software, there is another folder named "Epson Media Installer", and the app you want to run is "Epson Media Installer.app"
That would be the first two steps I would take.

The biggest issue that I still have is resolving the administrator password issue. If the printer has one — and mine apparently acquired one somehow — you cannot do a firmware update. (I was able to do that update in the past — it looks like the current version was installed in 2023, which was long after I purchased the printer.)
So what I really need is a way to resolve the password problem.
Various sources suggest that Epson may use several default passwords: admin, epson, 0000, or even leave it blank. None of those work. There are also suggestions to use the 10-character printer serial number. That doesn’t work either.
I think I need to find some way to reset the password (and probably the entire printer) back to the factory state, but the one set of instructions I found for that online is a dead end because… you need to password to access the option!
long shot, look in the Apple password app and see it it was logged there? I do remember that when Epson firmware for the "no chip" cartridge version is when mine got assigned to my P7000.

Well, darn, that did not work. I have no passwords for Epson in my Passwords app.
The connection to that “no chip” firmware update is intriguing though. I did install that back then after it was announced (It shows up on my printout of printer info) and that did not require a password, as I recall.
You might need to force the printer into recovery or firmware update mode and then reinstall the firmware. It could involve some finger yoga on the keypad, but I'm not sure about the P9000.
When I had chipless firmware on my P800, I read there was a way to force recovery mode through a fairly scary procedure involving pulling the plug mid-operation. Not for the faint of heart. But I went back to OEM firmware because I don't print enough to justify third-party inks.
As I recall, you need to use a Windows PC and connect to the printer directly with a USB cable.
This Epson Wide Format printer group has a lot of experienced members who could probably help out and the files section has a field repair guide and service manual for the P9000 series:

Yeah, that's what I've read. But it doesn't work. (And I had to get it from a machine info printout since for the life of me I cannot find that label.)
