Hehe I actually did shoot the LLL 35 APO into the sun. Not to check flare, but because I love a good sunstar. The LLL 35 APO sunstar is so-so, and nowhere near as nice as the voigtlander nokton's. But my copy doesn't flare shooting into the sun.
Onion bokeh is real, but it's only an issue in very specific use cases where the bokeh balls will be pretty large. For a 35, this means you're shooting near MFD. What matters more for me is how smooth out of focus highlights look in real world shooting, and the LLL APO does well here.
