for a 3-week trip to Mexico, I opted for my trusted pair of f1.7s zooms 10-25, and 25-50, and two OM classics, 17m 1.2 and 12-100 f4. Bringing two bodies for backup G9 II and OM-1 Mark II.
use case: everyday family moments, an important family indoor event and hopefully some sightseeing.
For years, my travel gear has consisted of the following items:
- OM System OM-1 MKII
- Olympus 12-100/4.0 Pro IS
- Olympus 8-25/4.0 Pro
- OM System 20/1.4 Pro
With this setup, I’m well-equipped for any situation on my travels.
If I’m visiting very dark museums or churches, I pack the OM System 12-40/2.8 Pro II in my camera bag.

Nice set up!
My travel gear depends on the purpose of the trip and what I expect to capture. For general travel, family events, and vacation travel where I don't expect to encounter bird/wildlife that I want to capture, the pictured kit here is it. Total weight less than 4 lbs.including FL-FM3 flash and spare batteries, and 35mm equivalent focal range from 18mm to 350mm. Also, here are a few shots taken with this set up from a recent trip to Pennsylvania to attend my granddaughter's wedding.

To cover many bases my trio of zoom lenses are 8-18 f2.8-4, 12-60 f2.8-4, 40-150 f4. Sharing a 62mm filter size between the two longer lenses also reduces what I carry.
I have also traveled with just the LUMIX 14-140. Supplemented with the 8-18 if I think I need to go wider.
Would like to get a larger aperture prime (likely a 1.7 or 1.8 variant) someday. But so far I’ve not felt a need for the larger aperture most of the time so more of having a compact lens option.
I've played around with various configurations. To keep things to a minimum, I've settled on the 12-40 2.8 PRO and the 40-150 F4 pro
-- I tried the 8-25 F4 but found I preferred the IQ of the 12-40, and wanted the faster 2.8 for low light
-- the 40-150 2.8 is tempting but too heavy/large. Most of my telephoto shots will be outdoors so F4 is adequate.
-- I'm probably going to add the Pana Leica 9 mm 1.7 for when I need wide angle, fast lens. It's small enough and light enough to not be too heavy.
My favorite lens: the 50-200 2.8. Fantastic IQ, does well with TCs, much lighter than longer zooms (but still too heavy/long for travel).
My travel kit (shooting for books) is my standard street kit plus a camera and a few lenses more.
OM-3 OM-1i Sony A7Cii and the tiny A6000 (which has been converted to FS IR).
Lenses :
Laowa 6mm
Laowa 10mm
OM 12-40/2.8
OM 20/1.4
OM 45/1.2
OM 75/1.8
OM 40-150/2.8
VILTROX 16/1.8
SONY 16-35/4
SONY 10-20 variable for IR
VILTROX 40/2.5
VILTROX 85/2
This may be too heavy for some but what I'm not using stays in the hotel and I typically only have half of that in the bag.
It varies widely, but generally it includes the 12-40/2.8 and either the 35-100/2.8 or the 40-150/4. At least one OM-1II and a Pen f. Generally, also a few small primes.
I'm headed to Cuenca, Ecuador in November. I'm taking a birding trip to the Cajas National Park so I am definitely bringing the 300 +1.4tc with the OM-1. I'll bring the 12-100 and 25 and 45 1.8's too. Debating on if I want to bring the Sony A7Riii. The Loxia 21 and Voigtlander 50 would be nice for the sunstars.
I've added the excellent, compact, and lightweight OM-System OM-3 to my travel setup.
