This native North American wildflower (Black-eyed Susan) replanted itself to a new spot in my yard, right at the edge of porch light and the back yard shadows. It greets me with a cheerful burst of light when I come home in the dark.

Maryland's State flower is the "Blackeyed Susan"..I have them in my sideyard..They are also the "winning coat" of the Preakness Stakes horse.

I did not know that! Very hardy flower too, literally a surprise replant from a different spot.

There is much to learn here on FM...Members don't "mention" "things" to make people feel unknowledgeable"..it is learning. Whether we got there "now" or "then" is irelavant imho. Enlightenment...

Aging is NOT for whimps brother!
I would like to "think" I was "staying young" in my youthful thought process, despite my chronological years, but WRONG!!!!!! The body sez otherwise! AND IT TELLS SO EVERYDAY!! !!

I hear you. They say "aging is no good but beats the alternative" - would be nice not to feel the effects though! Not sure if it helps, but the most senior woman in my life nearing 100 and she is one of the most young at heart people I know. Unfortunately her health is failing, and her joie de vivre is fading, but she has been an inspiration to us for many years, a precious treasure to her family.
Here is delightful post script to my original post. Pictured is 4-year old grandson of next door neighbor with my flowers. He was very proud of himself. He is too cute to be upset at, especially since he picked them for my 3-year granddaughter - they are best buddies. We replanted them since he pulled them with roots, they may or may not take but that's OK. I gave him one flower to deliver as intended.

Save the flower heads!!!!!! They will turn into seeds for planting!!!!
MY sunflowers are blooming now and a few have "gone to seed" and my goldfinches light on the flower and pick the seeds from the center.
I am happy you recognized the lad's enthusiasm and acknowledged it!
