p.1 #1 · Blade Runner-style in Shinjuku, Tokyo--what lens please?
Just wondering if someone did some portrait shots around dusk or nighttime in Shinjuku, Tokyo with the famous neon lights in the background. If so, what lens did you use? Originally I plan to just take my Viltrox 35/1.2 LAB N and A7V. However, my Viltrox occasionally hunts when the subject is in the shade amidst bright background. I might still go for it but since I want the background to be readable, I might as well bring the lighter Sony 40/2.5 G.
If you have any tips and etc. in Japan per-se please let me know. I downloaded the GO app already which I read is their UBER. I'm staying in the Shibuya district and start taking portraits (I've got a model) there before going to Shinjuku for some dusk shots.

I did a night photo tour in Shinjuku/Shibuya and I shot it fully in Sony FE 40G lens. Also did something similar in Sangenjaya back alley at night with a Voigtlander 35mm MF lens. I think 35-40 will cover your need. Maybe with a mist filter too. If you want more emphasis with the subject maybe go up to 50mm, but I feel like tighter than that you'd be struggling to get your context.

Appreciate this, exactly what I am looking for. My 50mm is even a 55 (Sonnar) and that will be too long. I'll bring both the 40G and Viltrox 35 and decide which to use. I plan to shoot in consecutive days anyway.

Haha thanks. I am actually a Canadian living in Michigan.
I think if you are going in October should be at the tail end of the typhoon risk. I've visited Japan the most in the November timeframe and its been mostly dry. Though the wettest time I've see was mid October...I'll be going again in Nov this year.

Ok I appreciate the weather advice. I am going this mid-October. I love to shoot rain or shine. If it rains, I'll just shoot with my iPhone 17 PM. I also want some shots while we are in the subway like these.

Train photos is like its own genre in Tokyo I feel like. If you have a subject I think it'll be super cool to shoot long-ish exposure in like a medium busy time of the day in places like this...

Ok sounds really interesting. Yes I can have the model walk and since the Godox 1VMidS is quite small I can even do the rear curtain to do the motion blur shots. Apparently the train ride from Shibuya to Shinjuku on the Yamanote line is 8 minutes while the Saikyo-Shinjuku line is only 5 minutes.
