I’m referring to the body extender that fits the RP ( R8??)
I still have mine both OEM and a JJC knock off even tho I gave away the RP body
It was great and massively improved the handling and ergonomics…hence why I kept hold
But why didn’t canon offer this solution for their crop bodies??
I only now have the R100 and R50 and this issue is my biggest gripe . It actually becomes uncomfortable! There’s just no where for your little finger to grip. I’ve currently got both bodies in a half leather case, that gives a deeper grip but still the little finger is just hanging!!
I have some great canon glass . Yesterday I was out with the R100 and had 300/4 Lis, 70-200/4Lisii also had the 70-300 is ii nano
The camera works brilliantly with all these lenses, but my god it’s so uncomfortable!!
I’d love to use my 70-300L and 100-400Lii with the F50 with its animal eye tracking feature. But the lack of pinky finger grip makes handing a horrible experience
Why doesn’t canon offer the extender or even better… a battery grip.
I suppose the R7 is the reason why? Canon wants you to buy that (or FF)
Is this yet another case of their infamous “Cripple Hammer” designed to force you to move up up up!!
Having owned the Canon RP, you must have known before buying the R100 and R50 that they would be too small and uncomfortable for your hands.
And that there wouldn’t be any battery grips available for them, as buyers of those models wouldn’t buy or need them anyway. Ok, some R7 users would buy one.
Why don’t you just buy a Canon body that fits comfortably in your hand, instead of constantly buying more Canon bodies that aren’t suitable for you and complaining that Canon isn’t meeting your needs?
You could also buy a Sony or Nikon if they fit better, and adapt your EF lenses.
I have a Wepoto grip extension on my R7. Adds about 1/2 inch (12 mm) of additional height to the body, gives your hand a little more room to hold it. Helpful with a longer lens.
I don't know if that brand offers extensions for other Canon bodies or not but it's worth looking into. It's aluminum alloy, pretty solid, and has provisions for easy access to the battery door on the bottom of the camera.
I agree with you about the size of Canon's lower end R bodies. I actually bought and sold the R100 twice; it is just too small. I am now shooting an R10 which is a bit bigger and has features I prefer to have that the R100 does not. I got used to the size of the R10, not by adding a grip/extension, but by selling off most of my EF glass.
I replaced: Sigma 8-16mm, Tokina 12-28mm, 35IS, 18-135 nano, 55-250STM. Replacements: RFs 10-18, RFs 14-30, RFs 18-150, Sigma 30mm f/.14, RF 16mm f/2.8, RF 50 f/1.8. Don't forget not having to use and adapter for every lens. Also sold the 90D. The weight savings for any particular set-up is 50% to 75%, WHICH IS HUGE, to me anyway. The smaller/lighter RF lenses brought me whole-hog into the R-system. And the R10 runs circles around the 90D in every regard.
I did keep a few EF lenses, simply because I use them so infrequently that they are not worth replacing. They 100L, 70-300 II, Sigma 150-600 C. The sigma is a behemoth on the R10. Mindset adjustment required. I am no longer carrying a heavy, cumbersome set-up. Now, when I use it, I am carrying a very good, older lens, that weighs a ton, on a way better camera than I used before.

One more option to consider, if you haven’t already. A decade or more ago I started adding small Fujifilm APS-C cameras to my Canon setup, especially for travel. At first the small size and tightly spaced controls gave me some trouble. But after I shot a lot with the smaller cameras I figured out better ways to hold them and adapted.
If not, though, good luck on your search for something that will make your current gear more comfortable for you.

At first the small size and tightly spaced controls gave me some trouble. But after I shot a lot with the smaller cameras I figured out better ways to hold them and adapted.

The description is very vague and it only adds 10mm to the base (I think)??) but it gives a much deeper grip that might make things more comfortable.
I’m surprised JJC hasn’t capitalised on this? They made a booster base for the RP which I bought ( still have it). But canon really needs to start paying more attention to the aps-c system. It’s almost like it’s a hook! To grab you, get you frustrated and move on up to FF.
I may later in the year pick up the R8 simply because I can then fit the RP booster. But like I said previously I’m no longer that bothered about FF. I’m enjoying just taking snaps these days

Could it be that, after buying the R8, you’ll find that your existing Canon RF-S lenses, when used in APS-C mode on the R8, simply don’t offer nearly enough megapixels?
