I like everything about this, the time of light, the progression of the waves, the posture of the fisherman, the sun rays seemingly shining down upon the fisherman, the waters shimmering in the middle ground: I just can't help but wonder how it might have looked in a landscape orientation. Beautiful capture, Gary!

Thanks Douglas. I shot this in portrait orientation which is strange for me because I rarely do that. But I thought the same thing. I think I expected more out of the sky but I ended up blowing it out a bit and that top portion doesn't add a whole lot. Appreciate the input !

Lovely image, Gary. I agree with Douglas, and wonder if you have enough resolution to crop to a landscape composition using the bottom 1/3 or so. You could run it through Gigapixel or such to get more to play with. It might be worth playing with.

Sweet timing / alignment of compositional elements.

Personally, I don't see this as a landscape orientation. Maybe a 1:1 square, but with the vertical arrangement of sky, sea, beach and the vertical arrangmeent of light rays, seagull, fisherman ... hmmm, at watering that down by extending the horizon lines laterally, so that it moves farther AWAY from that very tight vertical alignment (implied line). It might work to "relax" the image, but at the cost of how powerful the vertical is.

Either way ... nice one.

Yup, I think square or just a 4:5 and get rid of the top section of sky. Appreciate the input !

Question is did he catch anything Gary?
I think the orientation of the frame accents the solitude of the subject..lone fisherman fishing in the ocean..which is HUGE!!
Isolates the viewer's perspective!
Nice work Gary!
