All working fine, but tbh they are bigger end heavier than I wanted to carry all day… just in case.. kind of snapshots
After some googling I discovered one of the last canon film cameras was the 300X , if supposedly uses the same AF as thd EOS30.
I started to look for a 300X
Seems that particular model cas a cult following as prices are strong
Eventually spotted a listing error, the seller had listed it as 300V
Snagged it for £28! Boxed with all accessories and original silver 28-90 zoom lens.
It arrived yesterday. It is all mint but the grip has developed the sticky issue- 10mins with alcohol and the issue is no more.
Bought a pair a fresh CR2 batteries, fitted a diopter so I can see clearly, swapped the zoom for the 50/1.8ii mainly because it’s a prime, it’s fast and it’s light.
So I’m all set
Just deliberating what speed I should use. Think I’ll opt for 100.
The camera itself is fast to focus and the weight is laughable considering it’s “ Full Frame”
Not 300X, I briefly had a 300V but the rear door latch broke. I sitll have the 300 (aka Rebel 2000) from 2001 which was my first "proper" camera. These are great cameras, mine has had hundreds of rolls through it, mainly with the 50/1.8II and later the 40/2.8. With the 40 it makes a very compact and light body that will perform just as well as anything bigger, heavier and more expensive. Great little cameras.

Originally I was going to fit my 40stm for the reasons you’ve given. But stuck with a single iso speed film I figured the 1.8 aperture on the fifty might be a life saver at some point.
I have had a 300v (Rebel Ti) since 2003 and it's still really fun to use, but it does feel super plasticky. The 50/1.8ii was always my favorite pairing with it even though that is also very plasticky. I only recently got the 40/2.8 and it's great for keeping it slim, but I love the rendering of the 50 much more.
I have one. I think I also paid around £25 and the camera arrived in as- new condition. I suspect it was bought a few years before digital cameras became affordable so the owner went digital and put the 300x in a drawer after only a handful of films.
I see it as a replacement for a point and shoot. Its light and plasticy, but super compact and well balanced with a 40mm f2.8 pancake lens. Compared to a point and shoot it has a nice viewfinder and fast AF. Picture quality is excellent. Obviously the handling/ viewing experience gets much better further up the Canon range at the expense of a bit more weight. My bang/buck pick is the EOS 1N.

Yup, that certainly helps, plus it gives you a few more options on depth of field control. If you want to splurge out I'd highly recommend getting the 50/1.8 STM over the II. Still plastic but feels much more solid, quiet AF, sharper and overall a much better lens for very little money.
The other lens I really liked with it was the 35/2 IS. Bigger, heavier and pricier but the IS, AF and optical qualities are excellent.

I've got a Rebel Ti/300v. Very fun little camera; I find its big strength is ergonomics, probably one of my best cameras in that regard. It doesn't add any noticeable weight to my bag, so I sometimes toss it in whenever I go to cover an event in case I get the time to shoot film for a bit.

I have the lenses you mention. I might swap out for the later stm version.
I also picked up the old ef Tamron 17mm 3.5 a while back
That might actually find itself paired with the little canon at some point🤣👍🏻

I too have the 300x (T2) and 300v (Ti). Love the size of the T2 and the AF and max shutter speed. BTW, both Ti and T2 have integrated diopter adjustment underneath the eyecup.
