I had these custom made to sit on the desk and keep SSD's and card readers cool while in use. I have a couple to sell. It plugs into a USB port for power. The fan has 3 speeds and can accommodate 4 SSD''s. There are (2) 3/4" slots and (2) 1/2" slots on top of the fan. It sits on your desk and keeps your SSDs cool while in use. Heat kills SSD's and electronics so it's best to keep them cool. It works very well as my SSD's are very hot to the touch without them, and just lukewarm when using them. The fan is not completely silent, it has a low hum. The fan housing measures 4.75" x 4.75"
