p.1 #1 · What’s the One Piece of Gear You Sold and Still Miss?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking about “the ones that got away” when it comes to gear and figured I’d throw this out there.
Most of us have bought and sold a bunch of stuff over the years—some sales feel totally fine, and others you kind of regret later. Sometimes it’s not even about sharpness or specs, just how a camera or lens felt, the way it rendered, or the memories tied to it.
For me, the one that really stings is the Leica 35mm Summilux steel rim reissue. I sold it for practical reasons at the time, but I still miss that lens a lot. The way it drew, the character, and how perfectly it sat on an M body… it just had “something” that’s hard to replace. Every now and then I catch myself wishing I’d just kept it.
What about you?
Would love to hear your stories (and know I’m not the only one kicking myself over a sale)

If I sell something and really miss it…I can just buy another one. In actual fact I don’t believe I ever regretted selling any photo equipment…but then I really don’t buy or sell much gear.

That’s a great point. I’m definitely guilty of romanticizing gear. Even though I know they’re ultimately just tools, I often find myself forming a real attachment to a specific piece based on the mindset or memories I had while using it.

Honestly, I regret loaning camera gear. My ex-lady is hopefully giving me back my MFT camera with lenses this wk - after waiting on it for 6 years…

OP; have you looked at the thypoch simera 35? Very beautiful rendering and excellent pop for video.
There’s a great comparison b/w the Leica 35 summilux and the 35 simera on 35mmc.com done by Vincent, fyi.

Much love,
Dan

Unfortunately, I've never sold any gear. I need to badly.

Not camera gear. I regret selling hardly any of it over the years. I suppose the closest was the 55/2.8 AiS Micro that I replaced with the 60/2.8 AF Micro to get the magnification compensated aperture reported electronically. I could have replaced it but my life changed and there was no further purpose for normal macro use after that.

I regret letting go of the 1971 Chrysler (Dodge). I did not have funds to repair/restore it in the 1980s.
