p.1 #1Rusty Treasure
Drove down a road I've never been and came across this old Chevy truck that caught my eye.

Thank you for the comment! I love finding old rusty trucks and other eclectic items to photograph. Not sure why, but I always get excited to photograph them when I find them, You've got a great eye for finding and seeing interesting things to photograph! I enjoyed looking through your Flickr feed, your captions are really funny on many of them too!

Nice! It's always interesting to me how the steel from that era seems to weather and last, while later vehicles form the 70's simply crumble. Great images. - Kk

Appreciate that Kevin, thanks! You're so right about that observation - the older ones really seemed to be made with heavier duty steel that really lasts. I looked up the year of this old truck and it seems to be a 1951 or 1952.

Love the patina on this vehicle Scott!
I also travel the road least travelled! Found many a treasure there.

Your color is tremendous here! These old classics have so much "metal" that Nature can work with for us to enjoy!
Wonderful!

How are the fires doing? In your area?

These are great! It's true how all these old cars patina up the same. Super cool. When I was at Old Car City it was the same thing!

Thanks Dan, I know how much you like to photograph these old treasures too! Something about the textures and stories these old classics can reveal in photos makes for great subject matter. The fires have luckily died down a bit here which is great and the smoke in the air is pretty much gone. Now that we are in monsoon season, hoping things aren't so dry from now until fall/winter. I always appreciate your comments Dan!

Thank you Joel, appreciate your comment. I have never been to Old Car City but it's on my list to check out if I'm in the area. That place seems like the Mecca for old rusty cars!

I met a gentleman by the name of Kenny a few years ago, and he has accumulated a graveyard of old cars, trucks and heavy equipment. He has allowed me to come visit on a couple occasions and it's an amazing location with so much to photograph. Here are a couple of the man and some of his collection.

Boy am I familiar with "moonsoon season" Scott!!! A "god send" to areas experiencing catastrophies like this. Natyre can be a cruel "mother" at time! But she also can help what she cannot control to some extent.

Yeah the "past" holds the key to the future imho...

Holy crap Scott!! Those are super cool. I love the area! Such a different perspective than OCC. Where is this?

I was in OCC a year ago. Such a neat experience. I was messing around with 3 different lenses there. Here is the link if you are interested in seeing them. https://www.joeltpowell.com/Old-Car-City-White-GA

Wow Joel, your OCC images are incredible! You must have been like a kid in a candy store there! You really captured the weathered textures, colors and details, framing things in a really interesting way. You definitely have a great eye, nice work! I like how you captured details and overall images showing the cars in context to their environment. And what an environment it is! Seeing how many have been overtaken by nature with trees growing through and around the cars was fascinating! What three lenses were you using, I'd be curious to know? It seems some of the details were captured with a vintage type lens, based on the "glow" that I saw? Definitely want to go there now! Thanks for sharing the link, and if anyone else is reading this, I encourage you to take a look also - great photography!

The place I photographed Kenny and his equipment is almost completely hidden from view up a desolate road out of a small town called Debeque, Colorado.

Thank you Kevin! I did not notice that old Pacer in there until I was looking through them to post here. That's wild, that was a pretty interesting looking car with that long rear window and I remember seeing them around when I was a kid. AMC, not even in business any longer! Wonder what happened to them? Appreciate your comment, thanks.

Thank you, appreciate that very much. Im just trying to keep up with all the great photographers on FM. The place was different from anything I have ever experienced for sure. I had a racing trip I planned and I was able to throw a day in to go there which wasn't too far out of the way. I have told a couple of my buddies that it's worth going out of your way. The place is huge. I walked the grounds 3 different times with 3 different lenses. I shoot Canon. RF 2.8 70-200 IS, RF 2.8 15-35 IS and my RF 100mm F2.8L MACRO IS. I had very little experience with the macro so I was winging it. I read that most photographers prefer to shoot OCC in overcast weather. I shot with a combo of both and to tell you truth I preferred the sun/ partly cloudy. There are so many different colored cars and you can use it to your advantage to make the photos pop. I had seen alot of different galleries from OCC and they were all the same. I felt like I had a little difference with a little bit of light splashed everywhere. Ultimately, it was a super cool experience worth going out of your way for. I think I spent about 6 hours there. I took over 3000 photos that day.
