I realize I may be the last one to discover this update, but for those who may not have heard about it...
With the a7Rvi, Sony made some fantastic improvements to the ability to save and recall camera settings. It's a feature I used a lot with earlier generations (and one I sorely missed when shooting the Nikon Z8, with its oddly crippled 'banks' feature).
But having only three internally-stored memories on the earlier Sonys was always a little constricting.
Now, thanks to that little asterisk on the mode dial, there's easy access to ten sets. Plus, they are stored internally, rather than on the card (where they are too easy to erase). And...they can be named, which I find extremely handy.

The other cool feature is that you can set a custom button to toggle through them.
I really hope some form of this feature can be brought to A1II via FW. Even if we don't have the * icon I think some of the functionality could be brought over. I'd really like to have a button to toggle and the ability for it to Auto update the set when you make changes on the fly. This is how I used to use Canon C modes.

...agree with this.
It happens that my GFX100S II has 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 (six) physical positions on the PASM dial, for six custom sets. I use them all, and find this feature most useful in practice.
The implementation on the A7RVI looks similar to one on the Panasonic bodies, where "3" (instead of a *) can be used for saving/recalling multiple sets: 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, etc.

I saw it in intro videos and this resolves one of the biggest issues I have with sony cameras; the rotation lock button makes it impractical to switch modes when in shooting position. Also settings saved on memory card was never a reliable option because i change memory cards all the time.

This feature alone would make the upgrade to the A1iii and A9iv worthwhile. It's just clunky not having it on them now.

Just great to see other features of the A7R6 discussed INSTEAD OF BIF photos. I love a bird as much as the next guy ... but enough is enough!
The feature discussed here, the improved AWB (claimed), an entirely new sensor, an entirely new battery ... there's more to discuss than the frame rates and rolling shutter improvements. Would be great to see more feedback on these from early adopters.

Is there any experience of the VI with MF lenses? Voigtlander/Loxia for E-mount. I’m considering upgrading from Mark III and trying to work out if I can achieve critical focus with so many pixels.

Re MF, when I tested the A7R6 in store, I thought the EVF was almost unnaturally bright, sharp and clear. My immediate reaction was: great for MF. Perhaps not so great for evaluating a composition with light and shade being balanced. But I don't own one so it's only a first impression.

I find it very easy to focus manually with my three Voigtlanders: 12mm, 50mm ƒ1.2, and 110mm macro.

Mark Galer has quite good CAMSET suggestions and provides them as downloads to subscribers. I haven't checked yet how he would set up the 6 with these new options but I almost certainly will take a look if/when I have the camera.

I don't know what 'critical focus with so many pixels' means but I had no issues focusing with Mandler 35/2, and CV40/1.2 that I just got. CV has electronic contacts, so magnification is triggered automatically as soon as you rotate focusing ring if that's what you want. I did not have a chance to play with focus peaking only much, but it works well too.

I would love this feature on my A7CR. I have a pretty standard set up for the 3 menus across my cameras (all-around, action, tripod) but being able to set up a few more with a bit more detailed settings would be great.

Just started setting up the MarkVI. Wow, the IBIS allowed me to shoot handheld with the Voigt 65 down to 1/15!!! Insane. That answered my own question - technology has moved on significantly in 10 yrs.

Wow, with my RIV I never shot that lens below 1/125. At 1/60 my captures weren't so great, cuz front heavy fun. I was thinking of moving from Sony, but I don't want to give up my Voigtlanderish ways. Things like that make me want to stay. Cuz I love that lens.
