i want to start with wishing all the fathers on the forum a happy father's day. about 10-11 days ago i posted some pictures of what i called mute swans with their newly hatched babies. thanks to another forum member, EMH2025, posting trumpeter swans in anchorage alaska, i learned i was mistaken in my identifying the swans i posted. i did an online search on differences between mute and trumpeter swans and learned that mute swans have orange bills and trumpeter swans have black bills. i am glad they are trumpeter swans since they are rarer and have been slowly increasing in numbers. shortly after i took the pictures in my first post, water levels decreased to the point that the swans were having a difficult time protecting the babies due to shallow water exposing them more to predators. thank goodness we did have a considerable amount of rainfall and water levels did increase to a safer level. the swans are staying farther out in the water and i now have to use an extender to get good pictures. sadly, the swans have lost one baby. there were five babies initially and now they have four. it is amazing how fast they grow. they appear to have more than doubled in size in a short time. thank you for looking at the pictures.
