p.2 #1 · Bought a Sony A7cii, does a grip help cause this is the worst camera for ergonomics.
Is returning the camera for a refund an option? I love my a7C II, but I sure wouldn’t want to live with it if I hated the ergonomics. A grip might help, but maybe not.

Anyone here have a grip on the a7cii camera to help with holding it? After buying a Nikon Z30 for my nephew I fell in love with the size of a small camera and smaller lenses..finally decided to get a sony for the autofocus, but it is the worst camera I've ever had when it comes to holding it. My 50s ii + Mitakon 65 didn't cause this type of hand strain. 10 minutes and my hands are killing me today as they were yesterday.
Maybe I'll get used to it but has anyone had this problem and did getting a grip help? The lens I had is light too, its the sony 50mm f2.5g lens. One of the reasons I got rid of my Fuji 50s ii was being tired of the weight of it, but I never thought that this camera would be much worse. Same goes for ergonomics with the buttons. Maybe I just need to get used to it since it's all new to me, but right off the bat it wasn't like the Fuji where everything made sense with the buttons and even the Nikon z30 is better.
Kinda wondering if I made a mistake buying this or if I just need to give it more time. I would have bought a Z30 for myself but the autofocus is what turned me off from buying it for myself.
On the positive side I do like that the sony has somewhat of this surreal/dreamy effect look which I never got with the Fuji/Canon/Nikon. So thats cool. ...Show more →
One of the key selling points of the A7Cxx cameras is their compact size, which was a technical tour de force for Sony to achieve. If you don't like it, why not just sell it and buy an A7Rxx body?

There is a good chance a7r will need a bottom plate too. Grip itself does not add anything to the perceived size of the camera unless you have really tiny lens!

Because thats a totally different camera style. The a7cii was exactly what I was looking for. It just really needs a bit of a longer grip like the Nikon z30 has, its just way too small. Plus the buttons are still horrible. Tech marvel or whatever, doesn't excuse the absolutely poor button layouts. Nikon z30 managed to figure out a great button situation in the same size camera. Sony has them all oddly placed, not having the 2 rotating dials pushing in was a big miss too. I like the rest of the camera, just the ergonomics are really bad in my opinion. Just because its packed with tech doesn't make it immune to criticism or opinions that aren't for praising the camera 100%.
