Hi! Sandra here! I'm organizing a bit of an extreme photography x sailing expedition with Panexplore and in partnership with Brian Doyle, who specializes in environmental education, wildlife interpretation, and photography in remote environments.
Brian has worked across Antarctica, Iceland, Alaska, and Hawaiʻi, and has guided with leading expedition organizations including Silversea Cruises, Seabourn Expeditions, and National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions. A certified interpretive naturalist and photography instructor, he helps guests better understand wildlife, ecosystems, and photography in the field.
His photography blends traditional field techniques with modern digital methods to capture the layered relationship between light, time, and place. Brian’s work has been featured by National Geographic, Red Bull, and Canon, and exhibited in galleries and photography festivals around the world.
Itinerary> Follow in the wake of the Norse explorers on this unforgettable passage from Greenland to Iceland aboard SV Sea Dragon. Covering around 1,100 nautical miles, this voyage crosses the Denmark Strait—a stretch of ocean steeped in Viking history and natural drama. Departing Nuuk, we’ll set a westerly course across the open North Atlantic, leaving behind the icebergs and fjords of Greenland’s coast. This is a true ocean passage: open water, shifting weather, and a sense of vastness found nowhere else on earth. Depending on conditions, we may pause in East Greenland to rest or explore before pressing on to Reykjavík, Iceland’s vibrant capital.
Expect a blend of challenging sailing and moments of pure serenity—whales surfacing alongside, long northern sunsets, and nights that barely darken. You’ll be fully involved in the running of the vessel, from watch-keeping and navigation to sail handling and weather interpretation. You’ll also be taking turn to cook and contributing to all other jobs onboard as part of a small, capable expedition crew.
