I've put out a loon nesting platform in Central Mn each year since 2009. The first egg hatched this year on May 24th, which was a fair bit earlier than I'd ever seen by five days.

Looks like only one of the two eggs hatched, as this morning the parents had moved to the other side of the lake.

Here's one from the 25th, so one day old. They were still close to the platform and so I could use a 600mm + 2x tc on a tripod from the shore.

Great composition Steve. I'm wondering why there is a lavender cast. It's great that you got to see the chick with the parent.

Nice! The magenta cast is easily corrected in Lightroom using the white balance/tint eye dropper on the gray areas of the adult's feathers.
