Picked up a used 24-90 about two months ago and yesterday, it suddenly developed binding when turning the zoom ring. Have it boxed up ready to go to NJ, then probably Wetzlar for service, which I read is probably a loose screw and a simple fix, but I expect a long lead time before getting it back.
Have any of you who have had this lens had this problem?
Too late. Besides, I don't know of any repair shops in my area and Leica Seattle will just do the same. I'll let everyone know if they charge me to fix a flaw in their assembly process - reportedly a loose screw and an easy fix.
Update: Leica is going to replace a couple of screws and a Cam Follower under a "goodwill" repair. It's in the repair queue but they didn't indicate whether that queue is in NJ or Germany.
Lens arrived today and looks and feels like a professionally serviced lens, along with a certificate of competence, in case anyone hasn't dealt with Leica Service. The repair was made out of warranty and they serviced the lens as a gesture of goodwill. Just over a month.
