I’m not surprised to hear this. It would be tough to go up against Fuji and Hasselblad.
Part of me wishes that Leica made a ‘medium format M’, essentially along the lines of the modern M cameras and retaining the idea of manual-focus lenses. Given the market that exists for M cameras presently, I think it’s possible that Leica might attract a few people that way.

The current state of the M camera market is purely speculative, as Leica has not published sales figures or profit figures broken down by model. Various indications suggest that Leica's current cash cow is not the M series, but the Q series. But as mentioned, this is pure speculation.

Whenever I pick up a Sony camera all I want to do is put it down again. Probably my bad.
I would have thought given Leica's history, if anyone can build a truly compact, full frame, AF, EVF, ILC, camera with IBIS then Leica could and should.
Agree about Sony but Leica M has been successful over the years resisting trends. The SLR trend in the 60s and 70s. Auto focus. The trend to DSLRs (2000's). And again how long did it take the M to get a light meter. And they still make a film camera that doesn't have one. My question is why does everyone want Leica to become like everything that already exists when M has and continues to be the flagship by being what everyone else isn't?
For me and photographers like me it's nice to have a REAL choice over all the rest. If Leica wants to make a camera like the rest then rock on Leica. Just leave the M alone for folks like me.

You're in danger of preaching to the converted. ;-)
I owned and loved using M cameras for many years and would likely still be using them was it not for serious eyesight issues.

Leica M and Q leading the market for Leica Cameras with about 80% of sales together.
