Is there any info on the release date for this lens?

Cosina didn't announce any releases for June so it seems that earliest chance is a July release, and not sure if Z and RF versions will be released together or at separate months. Next new release announcement would probably come around June 15th for any July release(s).

I've heard 4 to 7 weeks out, which actually gives me more time with this review copy to play around with it and really get to know it properly.

It sounds like it's probably going to be a July release then. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't come out in June since Cosina would have normally announced any June releases on 5/15. You can enjoy the testing at a relaxed pace

This month they only made an announcement about their involvement in JAXA-Smash Satellite Rush program:

Thank you!

I think this will be my first time pre-ordering a lens, from your review I can already tell this is right up my alley.

Looking forward to this one! - as an ideal pairing to Zf. Have and like the 50mm f/1 Nokton, but the size/weight suits my Z9 better than Zf, i think.

I agree and will end up getting one for my Zf as well. It will be my first native Z-mount lens.

Fred, would you be able to show some night shots too?
I would like to see how it shoots in f1.4 and higher.

THIS is a big deal Fred! You saying this just gassed me up.!. I also got the Ksana and would love to compare this together with the Mandler on the ZF.

I can't wait for your final conclusion

Fred, would appreciate any observations in how it renders in environmental portrait use, particularly wide-open. Especially how skin tones might look, the in focus sharpness/oof softness ratio at close to mid-distances.
I understand many think the bokeh on this nokton to be "busy" but would welcome any examples with portraits taken showing how much seperation can be achieved from b/g and if subject is still acceptably sharp mid to center frame (and as soft frame edges and vignetting might in many cases be preferable for environmental portrait use, instead of detrimental.)
THANKS so much for all the detailed testing and information you have already provided, it's greatly appreciated! 📷

Great review, @Fred Miranda It does seem rather soft wide open and f/1.8 - is that a correct observation? It doesn't matter much for vistas, evening photography, etc but sharp eyes on portrait, is that possible?

Don't get me wrong, a lot of portraits and people photography doesn't require tack-sharp, it is more about the mood, the story telling, framing, light, etc. I don't expect this lens to be a Sony 35 GM, but I am curious how sharp one can expect it to be on face/eyes wide open or close to.

Officially announced today for both Nikon Z-mount and Canon RF-mount, both for July release. Specific date(s) will be announced later.

Official Japan price set by Cosina is 90K yen (Sony version and Septon 40/2 were 85K yen, so there is a small price increase). 79920 JPY at Fujiya Camera (including tax) vs. 75420 that was the original Septon price at launch. Map Camera's listings are not available yet but they should have same exact price as Fujiya.

I'm using a 35mm Summicron pre-asph V4 on a Nikon Z5ii, and am currious - In terms of "glow", how does this 35mm/1.4 Nokton Z mount compare to my V4 Summicron, and also to Leica's Steel Rim Reissue?

Probably a lot easier to answer if you show some Summicron glow, since most users of the Nokton probably don't have the Summicron.

The CV 35mm f/1.4 Z performs similarly to the CV 35mm f/1.4 M-mount. However, its stronger spherical aberration correction produces noticeably less glow than the Leica lenses, particularly the pre-asph Summilux. (Or steel rim reissue)

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated. I was hoping the Z version might be closer to the pre-asph Summilux/steel rim.

Samples 5: Low Light with family

Most of the images were captured wide open at f/1.4 in low light, featuring a variety of subjects at different distances.

We took my son to Dave & Buster's for his birthday (and to watch a soccer game), and I found the Nikon Zf paired with the ultra-compact Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 Nokton Z to be an excellent combination for this type of event.

Post-processing was kept to a minimum, with only light sharpening and minor exposure adjustments applied.
