p.1 #1 · Sunset over Half Dome and the Valley

This is an older photo that I have just got around to processing. This was taken in mid September 2024 at the top of Cloud’s Rest. I’m open to any critiques on my processing, something I’m looking to improve on.

From Cloud’s Rest, I presume? Nice place to be at sunset!

Lovely moment in time.

Since you asked about the overall processing, in my opinion, the size, brightness, and higher contrast of the foreground compete with the lower contrast of Half Dome, which is the image focal point. I might first try cropping a bit of the foreground. There is a triangular dark area on the bottom edge, towards the right. Maybe try setting your crop at the top of the triangle. My next thought would be to bring down the overall brightness and contrast of the foreground in the lower left.

If you wanted to test your masking skills a bit, a minor increase in brightness and contrast on Half Dome might work. Wouldn't change anything else.

Yes from Cloud's Rest, probably the nicest place I've ever been for sunrise and sunset.
