p.1 #1 · Holes, Bubbles and the 9mm

A client gifted me with the Laowa 9mm last year! Aside from the Canon 11-24, it is now my favorite lens ever. Another client loaned me his 90mm Macro (for Sony). Here is my first 9mm composition (with the Lieca SL2) then the 11mm, and lastly my first attempt at hand held sand macro! Kneeling on the beach trying to photograph the sand, BUBBLES got into my shot. To my huge surprise the bubbles blew my mind! I cannot seem to reproduce the effect. The bubbles image is only about 6 inches of a 55 inch print. In several smaller bubbles in the bubbles (in bubbles) I can see a clear reflection of both the shoreline and the condos behind me! I'll post that later.

Techie stuff below for those interested....

p.1 #2 · Holes, Bubbles and the 9mm

Techie stuff:

The first shot is the 9mm on my Leica SL2. Once I found the composition and shutter speed I liked, I just let the camera shoot (on tripod) many hundreds of shots having my cable release locked in. I just sat and watched enjoying the scene, and making sure a big wave did not knock over my gear. I like to shoot this way now and let the camera go for hundreds or thousands of shots (maybe over a half hour or more) then you massively up the chances to get somthing really amazing. Yeah a lot of culling later!

I have also figured out a way to make the edges of the image (all lenses) as sharp or even sharper than the middle! Making edge softness a total non issue to me. Later I will share this super cool unique technique.

The bubbles image was shot with the Sony A7R2. Handheld.

The "Holes" image Canon 11-24 at 11mm, I think on the Panasonic Lumix S1R, shot shoulder to shoulder with clients on the Florida west coast.

Very cool shots. It’s always interesting to find symmetry in the wild like your “Holes” photo.

Yeah, leaps right to mind. I worked for "the Mouse" and "Hidden Mickeys" are a traditional thing so maybe I'm a bit more tuned to it.

Beautiful work Mark. You get some spectacular clouds over there in Florida. The bubbles shot is unique and very interesting.
