Anyone have any experience shooting the 100-400 with both the 1.4x and 2x Z teleconverters? Any known anomalies? Does one have better resolution than the other?

I use the 1.4x all the time. It softens up the image a bit but paired with a Z8 or Z9 the images are still fantastic.

The 2x is definitely softer than the 1.4x.

Never used the 2X with it, but paired with a 1.4 TC I get very good results.

I just acquired the 100-400 for ability to do some tighter abstract landscape stuff. I am not usually a bird photographer but beginning to have some fun with that too. A little late at 83!

I have a thread up regarding the Viltrox 2.0 TC for Nikon Z, where I have shots taken of a variety of objects, vegetation and birds. As said there, it fits tightly to lens but I view it as a keeper.

I bought it on a whim because it was so cheap - $ 224

Enclosed here is a shot I took through a window of some quail darting by. As you can see, I could have taken the photo without the TC, but it was attached and I only had seconds for the shot.

Since I'm totally new to this sort of photography, my judgements may not be the best, but I have so far found the Viltrox 2.0TC quite good, especially closeup (to 15 feet). Some shots taken with it at about 100 feet, maybe not as good.

So, I see good functionality between this 2.0 TC and the 100-400.
