One nit — at this pixel level, ISO 1600 is already showing noise. Yes it’s easily cleaned up without much data loss. I can live with that especially now we have AI NR.
Question: with Sony is it not possible to save self-timer delayed shutter with AF button preferences in a custom setting? It seems if I set those to say 2-second delay and AF rear button only for tripod landscape shooting, and then save that to a CF, everything gets them and I have to manually toggle them back? I realize I can add them to my quick menu and it’s relatively trivial, but both Nikon and Fuji before allowed me to do this. Am I missing something?

Yes, you can easily do that. Your best bet is to set the Camera Set Memory to Automatic Update. Minor changes, such as setting a delayed shutter actuation, will be automatically incorporated /updated in the setting. On my MR Landscape Shooting Mode, I change the shutter delay to 2 seconds. The delayed shutter actuation will be there until you change it back to whatever and it will be set that way from now on until you change it again, of course.I didn't remember seeing the Automatic Update feature in the A1 II before. And to me it is a welcome feature. BTW, I set the Drive Mode of my camera at the default setting, by pushing the left wheel button.

So I am doing all that, but I cannot get AF with Shutter Button OFF to stick just to one memory group, instead that setting is still global and changes to that for every mode. I have to then manually switch it back to AF with shutter button, and now it's that on every setting, again globally.

Well, that's weird.. mine works. Did you register the setting as MR * (whatever number you assign)? Just to be clear, you are using the Memory Recall (MR) setting, right?

Appreciate you trying to help here. Yes. In this case Memory Recall 3. I have renamed it to Landscape. Everything sticks except Shutter AF OFF. (FWIW I have this exact same issue with my A7Cii, the Shutter AF OFF will not stick to a chosen MR spot and changing that for an MR setting box also applies it globally.)
So to be clear, my steps: 1) I go to * and recall 3, my Landscape group; 2) I set Shutter AF to OFF, and even though I have Auto Save settings turned on, I still tried to re-save this manually. Now If I go to MR1 for example, which was memorized with Shutter AF to ON, it is now OFF, and also OFF in MR2 which was also previously ON and also OFF in all the independent M, S, A and P positions. To get Shutter AF to work, I now have to go back into the menu and manually turn it back ON -- AND it's now back ON for everything. IOW, it only applies globally for me.
What's troubling is the fact it works this same way on my A7Cii, which in turn had me believing this was a Sony thing. But the fact yours works as it seems it should, this has me now totally baffled at what I am not doing properly My current workaround is I've assigned Shutter AF ON/OFF to the first slot in my quick menu, which is not ideal but workable.
