Had the same issue with the 35 on Sony, but the pulsing was not that strong and it didn’t loose focus once it acquired it.
My initial impression was that it seemed to have gotten worse with the firmware update, but then again after the update was the first time I tested it indoors in low light..
Also after the update on Sony the jpeg files get the correct lens name but the raw file still doesn’t show the Viltrox evo in the metadata.
Sorry, I know I’m posting in the Nikon subforum, just fyi

Interesting, thanks for chiming in, I'm always curious if these issues are brand specific or not...sounds like not.
That said, both new firmwares don't exhibit a strange behavior I kept encountering on 1.01...so 1 step forward, 1 back

I hope it has nothing to do with Nikons ongoing patent infringement fight, and Viltrox disabling the controversial protocol part by firmware updates, as part of an agreement with Nikon. My lens was already delivered from the factory with 1.02.
I will think twice before I will update my 85 EVO.
It will be presented in Beijing show next week, like 26mm EVO was on NAB, 26mm is still not available, so I think they present their lenses on these shows month or two before release.
Viltrox 35mm PRO will probably be 2x heavier than EVO, 50mm and 85mm PRO are around 800g, I hope they can reduce weight for 35mm PRO(But they are using the same body, so it will probably be around 800g).
AF on PRO will be faster, but I don't think PRO will be sharper.
The 35 Evo's bokeh isn't very pleasant imo so I'm curious as to how the Pro will compare at the same apertures. I'll also be looking forward to comparisons against the Siriu 35.
I already know the difference, based on other lenses, etc.
Sirui:
-Cheaper
-Smaller
-Lighter
-Probably little bit smoother bokeh
Viltrox:
-Heavier
-Bigger
-Faster AF
-Less aberrations
-Better quality control
-Probably sharper(especially on the edges)
Sirui is a nice lens, but I saw a lots of decentered samples on the internet...Viltrox also don't have perfect quality control, they have little bit issues with VCM motors.
Today, a new firmware for the 35mm evo (nikon Z, version 1.04) and 55mm evo (nikon Z, version 1.05) was released on the Viltrox website.
Does anyone know what changes have resulted from this?
I know the 35 had a pulsing when in Single focus mode. This seems to have fixed that. I'm not sure about 55. It said fixed known issues for both lenses. Thanks for the heads up
Yup, When I tested this morning, I didn't go above 1000 ISO. I usually use C mode anyways.
I also noticed that they have instructions in English during upgrade instead of mandarin.
I had a lightbulb moment whilst taking some product shots of the 55, and that is that all 3 EVO lenses have such small front elements that in theory, I should be able to use a step-down adapter to convert the filter thread from 58mm to 52mm without issue.
After some testing, that is confirmed. Nice to unlock my catalog of 52mm filters with an $8 step down adapter.
Stacked a mist and cpl for giggles during testing:
This filter stack is downright silly but I really like the results on the 55 EVO
KiwiFoto 58 to 52 stepdown ring > 52mm Cinebloom 10% screwed into stepdown > Maven magnetic adapter screwed into Cinebloom > Maven CPL mag'd to adapter. Causes no vignette.
