I had some morbid curiosity about comparing the bokeh near MFD between the TTA 40/2 and the 35 EVO at F2.
The differences in rendering are pretty stark...as usual the in focus area is better on the Viltrox, and the bokeh is better on the TTA, just as we saw on the TTA 75 and 85 EVO.
Haven’t seen enough samples to form a final opinion, but from what I’ve seen it looks like the 55mm is very sharp - even a bit sharper then the Nikon 50mm f1.8S - but the bokeh is not as nice as on the Nikon: More structured and more optical vignetting.
I did read some user reviews of Viltrox replacement lens hoods. The replacement Viltrox lens hoods seems to be better than the ones coming with the lens. That's what multiple people reported. Its in German, you might have to use the translation function of your browser.
My 35 EVO arrived this morning and very pleased with the look and feel of the lens. I’m at work so will try it out on the Zf and Z8 this afternoon. The hood on my copy seems to go on and off smoothly, so no issues there.
From what I’ve seen, I think sharpness is roughly a push, and the S is 100% the “better” or at least more consistent rendering lens IMO.
I’d like to test the 55 myself.

I received my 35mm f/1.8 EVO yesterday. I like it a lot. Feels good in hand and I really like aperture ring. It seems the B&H 15% off sale is over. It's only 5% off now. I think if you use a code on the Viltrox store you can get 10% off for three days from launch if you're a subscriber. I also picked up the 85 f/2 EVO today at 15% off at B&H. Viltrox has their own sale going on this week only, and you get 5% extra off with a code from a creator at any time as far as I understand it. I have a code if anyone wants to support one of our own (I'll PM it to you if you want it).
The 55 does seem like the sweet spot for the kind of character this EVO line has. Having "better" 35 and 85 options already I'm left wondering when and why I'd grab the EVO for those two.

I don't have the 50 1.8, but I have all of that. I feel like it's kind of a juggling act trying to figure out what to fit in my bag regarding the 35 or 50 1.2's so I always feel like I'm always short changing myself depending on what I bring. JadedWriter wrote:
