p.1 #1 · Leica M-A Hot Shoe Width

I recently discovered that the hot shoe on my M-A is narrower than on my other film M's. Almost discovered this the hard way, I forced a Match Technical EP-1s thumb grip into it the M-A hot shoe and almost couldn't remove it (it fits my M6 classic perfectly). After a little research, I discovered this is actually a thing. I discussed this with Tony Rose at Popflash, the MT US main distributor, he offered no solution. Much as I'd like to use a thumb grip, I'm not going to try and force the MT one again.

Any ideas for a workaround?

This likely comes down to production tolerances, either on the thumb grip or the camera's shoe. If you plan to use the grip on the M-A only, you could consider lightly sanding or filing the edges of the grip entrance, but that should be done very cautiously to avoid damage.

Thanks, I know I could file down the grip where it meets the hot shoe. Even with my jeweler's files, it would be difficult and for sure I'd bugger it up pretty badly. There just isn't much there to work with.
