Lightroom catalogue history issue

p.1 #1 · Lightroom catalogue history issue

I have an issue that arose when I mistakenly copied a bunch of files 8 times to my hard drive (progress bar wasn’t showing).

I only realized the issue when I created a folder in lightoom. I then manually deleted the extras from my hard drive but then when going back to lightoom originals are missing for some of the images.

I tried importing and synchronizing but every time it is not taking the duplicates (which is odd as I’ve untucked this box)

I know there are files not showing as lightoom shows 8,500 images while there are 17,000 on my hard drive.

I am wondering how to start again from scratch including all 17,000 images - is it possible to delete the catalog history from the past 1-2 days?

Thanks 🙏🏼

Mark

Mark, your problems will take a while to unravel. Which OS?

"I have an issue that arose when I mistakenly copied a bunch of files 8 times to my hard drive (progress bar wasn’t showing)."

How did you do the copy? Within Lr or via Finder/Windows File Manager? [always move/copy within Lr so that the activity is recorded in the Catalog]

"I only realized the issue when I created a folder in lightoom."
Please flesh out how creating a folder in Lr helped you realize the issue.

"I then manually deleted the extras from my hard drive"
"manually" sounds like you deleted the files outside of Lr.
[always delete within Lr so that the activity is recorded in the Catalog]

"...but then when going back to Lr originals are missing for some of the images."
And you know this because of "!" or "?" in the Library module?

"I tried importing and synchronizing but every time it is not taking the duplicates (which is odd as I’ve untucked [unchecked; darn smell chequer] this box)"

"I know there are files not showing as Lr shows 8,500 images while there are 17,000 on my hard drive."
[the Synchronize Folder action will eventually need to be performed]

"I am wondering how to start again from scratch including all 17,000 images - is it possible to delete the catalog history from the past 1-2 days?"
Hold off on rolling back to a previous catalog until work is done. The photo count is off because of manual add/move/delete of files.

I would copy the originals to a new location/drive. Delete all of the files from LRC dupes and originals, delete all files from the drive (not the copied ones). Verify LR has no recollection of them. Copy the stashed files to the right place and re-import.

I HAVE SINCE RESOLVED THE ISSUE ON MY OWN - I DELETED THE FOLDER, CREATED A NEW ONE, AND UNTICKED BOX TO AVOID DUPLICATES
