Congratulations to Ross Martin for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 7 votes - View Previous Winners
It’s been months since my 3-month intensive shooting trip focusing primarily on Utah, but more images continue to make themselves known as I keep working through the extended process of editing and developing, finding new favorites that I initially overlooked.
A few notes: the first and last in this set are monochrome and color versons of the same compsoition, let me know if you prefer one over the other. Image 5 is one of my new personal favorites, the green junipers against that rugged and almost exotic looking badlands backdrop is pulling me in. On image 9, I rarely photograph clouds only without a landform, but I could not resist the gentlesness and perfect colors here and the result feels painterly to me. Image 10 was the brightest and most colorful rainbow I have witnessed, right outside my desert campground not far from Kanab.
Clouds above Zion cliffs, monochrome version
Complementary pastels from Moonscape overlook
Evening light on Moonscape badlands
Sunset spotlight on cliffs, Zion NP
Rugged badlands graced with juniper trees
Colorful layers mixed with pine forests, Cedar Breaks National Monument
Ross, another stunning set and a pleasure to view. I am enjoying your moonscape overlook images #2 and 3. Between first and last, I prefer the color version. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
You have my vote 👍🏻
So much brilliance here Ross! Just a joy to see each edition of your most recent finds. Three months, wow and I was wondering if planning two months would be overkill. Apparently not!
I like the b&w version a smidge more... But both have their charms...
Beautiful set, Ross! Agree with you about the junipers in front of that colorful background - my favorite as well. Also, I prefer the color version over your b/w one.
Ross, love your work......Striped badlands at dusk is a clear winner for me. Also, #2 &3 are stunning. You really have an eye for picking out details in a large scene. Good work. Easy vote

Thanks Fred, I’m glad your favorite is the same as mine!

I think #2 and #5 might be my favorites in the group. I like #2 for the way that it allows the landscape’s abstract forms to shine, and I like the typical Southwest color palette in #5 — red rock and green trees.
As to the monochrome versus color photo, my preference in his case would be for the monochromatic version.
Very nice set Ross! I agree with Dan on the favorites - #2 and #5. If I had to pick one it would be # 2 (I am very partial to everything Moonscape-related...:-), but it does make a very interesting abstract. I prefer the color version over the monochrome.

Super set!! Hard to pick a favorite, but the first sure grabbed my attention - excellent conversion of some perfect cloud drama with sweet light on the peak. I also really like the badlands & junipers for the color contrast and lush trees vs harsh land.
We were going to head down there last week, but got scared off by the HEAT DOME. Heading out today and pivoting to rock climbing in Idaho. Will hit UT next week if it cools down.
