p.1 #1Can I screw in a 46mm filter in the slip in filter holder of the Z 800mm
I am looking to experiment with bird photography at slow shutter speeds with my Z 800 6.3. The lens comes with a slip in filter holder that looks targeted towards gel filters, though I also see a 46mm thread on the holder. Has anyone tried to mount a 46mm filter in that holder? Not really keen on spending $500 on the Kase options just to try them.

That’s literally what it’s designed for. From the manual:

I think Kase also makes their own magnetic drop in holder for it that includes a gear drive to use polarizers. Think it’s about $400 with the holder, polarizer and ND8 or $500 for the holder with a 1-5 stop vari-ND. Oddly I don’t see the individual filters listed for sale.

Yes, I use an ND filter in there for video. That is it's main purpose. Also, Nikon supply a CPL to use in it.
