Thanks for pointing to this list. The Voigtländer Apo-Lanthar 2/28 is not in the list, so it is not very up-to-date. I sent an email to point out that I'd consider it helpful if the list also states whether a lens transmits EXIF data to the camera, something which I generally consider a deal-breaker.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that most lenses used on Sony were adapted and Sony touted how well that strategy worked. Those days are gone.
I still adapt my Zeiss ze lenses that I use for landscapes. Nothing has made me give them up.

It reminds me of the old Springsteen song 57 Channels (And Nothin' On).
Only 36 of 447 (8%) have AF and OS. The lack of teles is glaring. Sony has always been slack in that area. It seems like a good opportunity for Sigma and maybe the Chinese will get there later.

The Tamron 50-400 is a really distinct lens, because it is not only the most compact "100-400 class" solution for Sony, but at the same time has that very practical extended zoom range, and the IQ is no slouch (a bit better than the Sigma 100-400 and not much behind the Sony 100-400 GM).

One small correction: the Laowa 180 Macro is f/4.5 not 3.5.
I think the bigger problem for some people with 3rd party lenses, that is especially an issue with telephoto lenses, is the restriction of shooting at a max of 15 fps, and not allowing telecoverters to work with any of these lenses.
Those restrictions have to impede 3rd party long lens development as they are competing with one hand tied behind their back. Is Sigma going to make a 500 f/4 as they did for DSLR mounts? It doesn't make much sense to make a high end lens like that which can't shoot at the max fps of many cameras and can't take a teleconverter, so they end up making a 500 f/5.6 instead.

Sigma even has a 300-600 f4 for E-mount.
So unfortunately you are wrong 😅

Corrected on the Laowa. You'd think I'd know, since it's sitting in my dry cabinet (and will stay there until we get into wildflower season in late April/early May).
I'm not as convinced the restrictions are slowing Sigma. I think the 500/5.6 was produced as the mirrorless answer to Nikon's F-mount 500/5.6 PF (a lens so wildly popular, people were desperate to get it to work well on e-mount). The fact that it's native and a better overall performer than the Nikon for the same money is just a bonus. There's not a lot of doubt in my mind that lens is what Sigma intended; a niche filled for both L and E shooters. You'd have an easier time convincing me the 300-600/4 was created to work around Sony's extender restrictions, but, even there, I think Sigma was just following their history of producing huge super-tele zooms optically designed to be competitive with prime offerings. It's another niche filled.
Should Sony ever loosen their restrictions on third party lenses, both those lenses are ready for it. I'm sure most people would love to see those restrictions disappear, but, for the niches those two lenses fill, I'm also sure they've figured out how to work with them. I think the only thing it will change for Sigma is they'll sell more lenses and extenders, but I doubt it will impact their overall planning.

I will continue my ongoing rant!! There are 77 35mm lenses!! Only 2 500mm lenses. Neither of the two 500mm's will AF with a teleconverter and no OEM 500mm exists.

I think the customers have spoken and lens producers responded. I would think there are magnitudes more 35mm lenses sold compared to 500mm lenses.

Put a viltrox TC on the Sigma 500, I hear that works.

I agree. If we just talk exit pupil size, the 300 f/2.8 is 107mm. The 400-800 f/8 is of course 100mm. There is a really big jump in terms of price and capabilities between these lenses and the 400 f/2.8 (143mm exit pupil) and 600 f/4 (150mm exit pupil).
Nikon has the 800 f/6.3 PF right in this gap (it has a 127mm exit pupil) that fits right in between and costs less than the 300 f/2.8. On Canon you can get an EF 500 f/4 IS II (it has a 125mm exit pupil) and also fits right in between the 300 f/2.8 and the big guns and it can be had for less than $5,000 and it does a full 30 fps on the top Canon mirrorless cameras. I think Sony needs an option that competes here and a 500 f/4 for under $6,000 would be perfect, but Sony isn't going to do it and I don't think Sigma or anyone else is either with a lens like that crippled with no telecoverters and only 15 fps.. I think they might if the lens wasn't crippled.
Maybe Sigma will make a 600 f/4.8 (also a 125mm exit pupil), which would be this in between lens and could work better without a teleconverter. I hope they do and bring it in for less than $5,000. It would be a go to lens for a lot of folks I think.
