I have been afraid to chime in on this thread, because I have owned so many cameras it is honestly embarrassing.

Started with Canon EX Auto as a teen had the canolite D flash I think
Then played around with this bunch of Canon stuff
T-50,AE1 program,F1,30D, 5D-1, 1DS,1D mark II,1DS mark II,!D mark III, 1DX, 1DX II(2)
All the one series bought used never a bit of trouble!!
Only dust on sensors odd time
Best cams was 1DX II's even better in low light than 1DX for one thing

I’ve owned quite a lot…here’s my list in order.

PowerShot A75
Digital Rebel
30D
Powershot G9
1D II
1Ds II
(Big gap of m4/3, Fujifilm and Sony)
RP
R6
R5
R8
(Moved to Nikon for a few years)
5D Mark II
5DsR
R6 Mark II

The last three are my current Canon bodies, plus I have a second 30D and Digital Rebel that I picked up super cheap for nostalgia. I also obtained an EOS 650 and Elan for a bit of film shooting, and I have my dad's old AE-1 Program as well, though I usually shoot medium format for film work.

My “digital” Canon tree started with the 1D which led to a 1DS, 5D and just about every future iteration of these three up until about 2020. This was followed by a 6 year hiatus over to Sony but sentimental thoughts were tugging strongly at my heart and have just this summer rejoined the mothership with a R5II and soon to be delivered R1.

Good to be HOME!!

FTb I believe in 1971. Before that German SLR starting 1960.
Tried Sony when I got tired of waiting for Canon to go to mirrorless. Beginning to be sorry I came back to Canon.

My lineage quickly falls way behind the times. To make up for that, I guess I'll link a favorite shot from each camera. Note the dates are simply when I started using each camera, there was a lot of overlap. I was about to notate the fate of each of these... But I still have them all. No I don't want to talk about it.

2007 - Digital Rebel XT
2008 - 30D
2010 - 1D Mark II
2013 - 1D Mark III
2014 - 40D
2017 - 50D
2017 - 5D Mark II
2018 - 1D Mark IV
2018 - 7D
2024 - 5D Mark III

Bonus
2022 - Borrowed T7

Edit: Forgot the 7D lol

Camera company human devotion:
Though I listed my Canon gear over time here, I'm reminded that cameras, as well as any other non-human, non-animal equipment devices do not have families, or genealogy.

Some may be somehow devoted to their chosen camera manufacturing company, but a camera is merely a tool, not a live thing that a Male & female camera coupled, resulting in the female camera giving birth to.

A family is a group of people connected by blood, marriage, adoption, or deep emotional bonds

If I’m reading these correctly
There’s a fair few of you that have opted for the smaller set up as you’ve aged and matured as a photographer?

I’m also in the same boat. searching for a way forward without having to swap brands but yet wanting a camera that doesn’t compromise too much. The current canon aps-c bodies are fine ( more than fine) but canon…honestly I despair… canon needs to recognise this pattern and offer better faster smaller lenses .

My own timeline with canon
Begins with the eos600 thru to the eos1

Digital SLR was by way of a used 5d which suffered the mirror fallout and was replaced (temporarily whilst repaired) by the 7d then later 7dii

After that it just……?? I don’t know ?? Became some kind of thrill to hunt down bargains

300d, 350d, 400d, 30d, 40d, 50d, 60d, 70d, 80d, 100d, 200d, 5d, 5dii, 5diii, 7d, 7dii, 6d, 6dii, EOSM, M2, M3, M5, M6, M6ii, M10, M50, M50ii, M100, M200, RP, R100, R50

Besides the 350d, 5dii, 200d and RP ( all given away) still have all those other bodies plus quite a few duplicates… oh and a 1div.

But, alas I’ve reached the end of the road.
No longer want da BIG heavy L glass, happy to shoot with aps-c but the RF-s lens line up is…… dreadful!!

So it really is the end of the road for me where canon is concerned.

I may….may pick up a used R8 to use with the small selection of consumer RF primes I’ve amassed. The R8 is the obvious choice as it uses the same battery as both R100 & R50

But other than that …I’m done. Canons recent releases offer me all the thrill and excitement of toothache. Hence I just can’t be arsed with the brand no more… bores me to tears.
👍🏻
