p.1 #1 · Small fuji

For a small Fuji that is an interchangeable lens camera, for fun and times you need smaller and fun with jpegs and sims, how is the xt30iii? Thinking small primes.

Inexpensive and tiny. Of course the xe5 is desirable but price matters. Probably can’t pull this off this year but I’m curious.

I don't have the X-T30 of any iteration, so take this with a grain of salt.

I used to have the X-T3 which has the same sensor as this camera. It's really good. Film simulations are one of the fun things about Fuji cameras (admittedly, I mostly edit my photos unless I'm shooting B&W with Acros). The latest X-T30 (and I believe version ii as well) have more film sims than the X-T3 had. I don't care too much about many of the additions, but Classic Neg is fun and I wish the X-T3 had had it. Like the X-T3 the X-T30 series has no IBIS. To me IBIS is great to have most of the time, but for a walkabout camera that will be used outdoors in the day a lot it's not critical. I see no reason to think the X-T30iii is not a good companion.

Primes: it's hard to go wrong with the Fujicrons. I've had all of them in the past. The 50mm f/2 is a hidden gem, the 35mm f/2 is IMO one of the greatest "nifty fifties" of all time. The 23mm f/2 sometimes gets accused of not being sharp enough at close distance, but stop it down a little and it's more than good enough. The 16mm f/2.8 (is it a Fujicron? Fujirit?) is a fun little guy. Want something smaller? There's the 27mm f/2.8 pancake (my only knock on it is that the MFD isn't close enough) and the newer 23mm f/2.8 pancake (I haven't tried it but from reviews I think I'd like this one). Want something even smaller? There's the Voigtlander 27mm f/2 and the Voigtlander 18mm f/2.8 (which might just be my favorite lens on Fuji).

IIRC the main change in the X-T30iii over the ii is the newer processor. The AF is markedly better on my X-T5 than it was on the X-T3 but for casual usage it's more than good enough (and doesn't matter with the Voigts). So you could probably save money getting the previous generation used and not be sacrificing too much.

Thank you! Great advice. I adore Voigtlander. One of those and a couple small Fuji would be great.

I have a ZF and adore it. Worried the xt5 is too close in size so I thought xe5 then saw the price and kept looking at the lineup.

Definitely not against the older models. I just knew the newer ones had reala ace and a couple other sims.

I've owned cameras in the X-E and X-T99 lines and wouldn't exactly call them tiny - for that you'd probably be better with Ricoh.

My current small(er) camera is the X-E5 and I use it with primes such as the 35/2 and pancake 27mm - it works out well and the customization options make it easy to get the image you want in camera and not bother so much with post processing.

That size seems great. Can’t imagine an xe5 or xt30 isn’t a good deal smaller and lighter than my zf especially with a 35/2 or cv color skopar.

If I’m wrong I’ll pass.

I shoot in raw and figured maybe a Fuji for jpeg would be a fun switch.

Evf is a must. No Ricoh

The X-T5 seems so much smaller in hand compared to the Zf (and has a way better grip).

Actually does look smaller and is a little lighter. Idk if enough. But it seems you get a lot for almost the same price as the xe5

I wouldn't buy a Fuji today if it wasn't either the X-E5 or the X-T5 and there's a lot more to like about the T5.

Plenty of cheaper used copies floating around too. Of course the T6 is on the way and prices will crater after that so just know you're gonna lose money on it.

Just slap a Voigt 27mm on it and be done. Bonus, you get an Ultron unlike all the Noktons running around Z mount.

Wouldn’t mind the 35/2 or 1.4 in there

I use the XT5 mostly with the 27mm f/2.8 — that’s my “always with me” camera. It works great — reliable, small, excellent image quality, good battery life. Most of my street photography in the last few years has been done with that combo.

Think about the X-T50 as well. It is the X-T30iii with the new sensor and IBIS. The X-T50 or 30iii are significantly smaller IMO than the X-T5, but the smaller size makes them more fidley.

Tougher to hold etc?

It's a bit of a vague question -- how is the XT30II? I think there's plenty of info from youtube reviews, websites, etc.

Just go into a camera or an electronics store to test out the different cameras for yourself to see how they handle. The XT30 II is a good deal smaller in hand than the XT5, and much less expensive as well for almost all of the same functionality that most people regularly use.

Whenever a new Fuji camera comes, the price of older cameras don't go down that much. So if the cost is a big factor, I wouldn't bother waiting another 6 months for a new XT to be released. Just find a model at the price you want to pay and pull the trigger. Should you choose to resell it, you're going to lose money on it no matter what.

If you plan to use a manual focus lens a lot, then you'll probably want a bigger viewfinder, and the XE5 and XT30 II have rather small viewfinders compared to the XT5.

Very used to the zf and z8 which is the same size evf as the xt5. Started on the xs10 which is the same size as the xe5 evf. I’ll likely stay xt5 then.

IMO the Zf's EVF is nicer than the X-T5's even though by spec they are very similar. Not sure exactly why that is but that's my experience. The X-T5 EVF is still pretty good though.

An X-E body will be a good choice, they are light, small, and encourage you to take it with you everywhere. I've had an X-E3 for around eight years and have used it a lot. It's excellent with the smaller prime lenses. I did have to buy the metal handgrip (MHG-XE3), disable the touch screen and the Q menu button (I have big hands and was getting a lot of accidental control actuations), but after that it handles well and is a pleasure to use.
I also have the X-T5 and it is heavier and carries less well and I'm less inclined to grab it on my way out unless I have a specific photo mission in mind.

The panel is similar but Nikon uses nicer optics for the EVF (might be a size and cost thing with the X-T5). There also some differences in video feed quality but I think that mostly refers to the punched in view.

Regarding size and weight the Zf is substantially larger and heavier than my X-T3 (which is the same size as an X-T5) and most of the lenses are much bigger, too. The difference is more notable than it looks in online pictures.

Yes tougher to hold and not suited to use with larger lenses. I also find my fingers are more likely to accidently hits buttons on the X-T30ii compared to the X-T5 and X-E5. It has been a great small camera for me though and its size is overall a benefit for me. I often take it instead of the X-T5 becuase of its size. If I were buying again, I think I'd go for the X-T50 over the 30iii.

I could always stick to my Nikons but sometimes with the lack of smaller lenses and the zf not really small size I find myself wanting smaller for walking around or shooting at my day job depending on the day.
